Hi all. I use Disqus for my comments and read a post recently about someone quitting Livefyre for the old school Wordpress comments. Any thoughts on the best way to go today? I am thinking about something lightweight for site loading but robust and easy to use.

I've used them all… Disqus was my favorite by far, but several readers had trouble getting it to load. I used Livefyre (I hated it), then regular WP comments for awhile, then switched to IntenseDebate. So far (knock on wood) it has worked pretty well and no one has complained. Probably because it comes from Auttomatic, the same company that makes WP. I don't know if that's helpful or not, but IntenseDebate has been the most user friendly for readers, while Disqus was my favorite as far as ease of use/moderation.

I just stick to regular WP comments.  I've never liked the other systems when I comment on other sites.

I have used intense debate. It has worked okay for me. I did lose a ton comments when I switched over from the Blogger platform (had ID then too). There have been times, not recently, where I failed to receive notifications that people had commented (problem if you require moderation for comment approval). I haven't had many problems with it recently.

I used to use Disqus, but it always messed up my css settings and would draw this huge black box around the whole comment area. After fixing it 3(!) times, I gave up and just switched to the built-in Wordpress commenting system. I did add Akismet to cut down on spam comments. Some people have problems with false positives, but aside from trackbacks at first, I've only had one false-positive.

A word on IntenseDebate. As a commenter, I have a LOT of problems with ID. If I'm not already logged in, it will throw me an error about half the time I try to comment on a blog with ID.

If you are going to go with a system, go intense debate. I've had such a problem commenting on blogs with livefyre and even worse with disqus. Often with disqus I  can't even get the applet to activate so that I can type. I've never had issues commenting on an intense debate site.

I used a few of the more common ones mentioned here, and I have now reverted to WP comments on all of my sites. To me, it makes things so much easier, and it allows people who are not familiar with blogs (or do not want to log in with a SM site) to comment.

I tried Intense Debate and gave it up a long time ago. I am starting to wonder if the built in Wordpress system is best now.

As a commenter I think regular WP comments are the easiest to use.  And to me they seem easy to moderate as well. I've never understood why people want different commenting systems.

I'm a big fan of IntenseDebate on other wise – it's just so darn pretty! Never had any issues with it, and only once or twice with Disqus.

WP native is fine, too (.com and self-hosted) though the non-self hosted system is the one thing that might finally hurry me up to go self-hosted.

I use IntenseDebate right now (and have for the past year or more). Since I use Blogger, it's the best option I've found so far aside from the default WordPress commenting system (which I can't use).

In case you were curious, IntenseDebate came out of a small incubator in Boulder (about 15 minutes from my office) before it was sold to Automattic. I had some issues with it and dropped it for what I am using now. Has it gone through any big changes/upgrades over the last year or two?

I started out with Disqus, but because I'd just started out I had nothing to compare it to and wasn't overly impressed. So soon after I found LiveFyre and I thought I'd cracked it, but found it really unreliable, and due to some feedback from other bloggers raising issues with it I finally moved to IntenseDebate, added the CommentLuv plugin and so far (a good month or so later) everything is working fine. I like IntenseDebate best out of these three, there's even a choice of button colour to match my colour scheme -bonus!

I've found the traditional WP comments to be sufficient myself. I feel that too many add-ons makes things too convoluted.

I agree.  As someone who likes to comment, the basic WP Commenting system is my favorite.  I hate all those systems, as they make things too difficult.

I also just stick with the wp commenting system. I often encounter problems with sites that use Discuss.
