Tom @ Canadian Finance Blog said:
I vote #4, whoever came up with that idea is really smart ;)
Why, that was me, on the initial design, Tom ;) 'Cept it was on the heading and it was overbearing so I dropped it. But thanks for re-hashing the idea – it works better on the by-line.
anyone else have opinions? We'd love to hear them!

I'll stop pestering people with this as of when I go to sleep tonight … if anyone else has an opinion, love to hear it!
OPTION:
1 – By-line changed to: Balancing personal finance with sustainable living in Canada
2 – Small maple leaf in the lower right corner (see: this one)
3 – By-line changed to: Canadian couple balancing personal finance with sustainable living.
4 – the same leaf as #2 – but one @ each end (or just the end) of the
by-line – to blend in with the "glow" around the lettering.

I'd go with 4 with a leaf at just the end of the byline. Two might have too much symmetry for my taste.

To Build on the Family CEO's suggestion, what about a maple leaf in your html navigation bar? I think they are called favicons?

I think options 1 and 3 may drive non-Canadians away as they won't know your site pertains to them.
I like option 4 the best, but think 2 is fine.

Thanks all!
It is neat to see how our blog metrics line up with comments here.
I asked Peter about what I need – didn't hear back tonight yet, but, it's Friday and i'll be damned to ask anyone to WROK at night on a friday. I value my time "off" like no other.
I'll look at the CDN flag at each end of the by line, and then just at the end of the byline. I think this works. If the advertiser group can't see it – so be it. We'll soldier on.
Thank you ALL for all the input. Let us know if we can help you out in the future, please.

I think the maple leaf is very pretty. However for me it is hard to say how it would look without seeing it. Will it be big enough to be noticeable or will it blend in with the background. I am not sure if it will make me think Canada or "tree-hugging hippie". Then again, I am not Canadian, and perhaps, a Canadian, could spot that incognito leaf a mile away.

I would say a flag or a pic of Canada would do the trick.

This is how #4 turned out.
Thank you all for the help. I hope we are branded a bit more now.

Love the new header. Looks great. It's subtle but still noticeable.
