Hi… I need some ideas for giveaways. The hard part is that these giveaways have to be budget-friendly. I would love to do something, but financially, it's a bit tough. Back in October/November, I did a giveaway with some sterling silver jewellery that I made. I don't mind doing that again and I will, but I need some other ideas…. Thanks for your help.

You could contact the advertiser directly that you would like to work with. Give them your PR, Alexa, page views per month, and what is in it for them. I had some success with that when I was just starting on with giveaways. After awhile, if you regularly run giveaways, some advertisers will start contacting you.

You could always put a post in the Yakezie forums and ask if any other sites want to team up in sponsoring the giveaway!

In the one I'm running now, I just decided to give away some copies of a book I already had. Then the publisher contacted me and offered to supply the books and handle the delivery to the winners and promote the giveaway, so they are definitely an option, and if you offer to do a review of a book they may be even more inclined to do so. It can't hurt to ask!

Do you do swagbucks? I convert my bucks to amazon gift cards and give them away. I agree too regarding the advertisers. If I have really liked a product I have contacted the advertisers and they have agreed to give an item away.

These are great ideas. Thank you very much.
Melissa: I never thought of that before…. What's PR? Public relations?
Jacob: That's a good one too…
Eric: I really like this one. I think I might go with this one for the next giveaway…
Super Frugalette: A while back I tried to sign up, but it was not available in Barbados…. Maybe I'll try it again.

PR would be page rank.
I have done quite a few giveaways on my blog. Many I was contacted for, others I jus contact companies I wanted to work with and most were super keen to be involved.
I have just started doing the swag bucks thing and will be using my points to do Amazon giftcard giveaways too. I am amazed how quick it all adds up.
Try contacting smaller businesses too, many work from home moms would love the opportunity to get their business out there.
Good luck.

If you pay out of pocket, you can deduct those expenses on your upcoming federal taxes. Keep records!
I think books are a good early giveaway to get things going, or gift cards.

Hi guys… I followed Eric's advice. I contacted a book author and he agreed to sponsor a giveaway. He sent me a copy of one of his books (I bought one for myself too), so I'm going to post the details of the giveaway very soon…. as soon as I finish reading the book. lol.

books work great – usually the ones im contacted about to review I end up giving away (though lately I've been lazy and just sold them to the bookstore)

I've hosted quite a few giveaways and I'm always amazed how many entries the smaller prizes get. I gave away an iPod Nano last year ($49) and it attracted over 2,000 entries. It nearly paid for itself in new subscribers, etc…
Good luck!

Wow. I don't have much to add to the conversation, but since I was lurking around I figured I'd come out and say thanks to every who provided the great tips.
In the future, I want to host exclusive giveaways on my Facebook fan page and I was thinking I could offer lower value items than what I would on my blog. Books are a great idea. And I never considered contacting the author/publisher for a freebie. To ease the time burden, I think it's best to start with books I've already read.

I started out with subscriptions to Personal Finance magazines. It's $12/year which is pretty inexpensive. Just a note: If you're in the Us and the winner is in Canada the costs jump to around $30/year.

You could offer up some service via your blog, like you could do a review of the winner's product/business/website, and that could be your prize. Would be a great prize for somebody with a small business to promote.
If you want to do a giveaway and need sponsors, just let me know, plus you can probably get other people on board.
