I've started my blog off on a standard wordpress 2012 theme, just to get things going and to get some content up and running
Now its been up a month, I'm still enjoying doing it so I'm going to buy myself a genesis theme to make things a bit easier on the eye.
But I've never done anything like this before and was wondering how you guys sorted out your great title fonts and logos?
Help please

My site logo was created with a very low tech method… I made it in Word and I just cropped a screen capture.
As for setting up, again I am far from an expert, but just mess with different themes and find the one that suits your style the best. Then keep tweaking it until you are happy.

I setup blogs for people, so this kind of stuff just comes easier to people like myself. I started with just a basic logo (what I currently have on my site), but just finished up with a new logo and will be putting out a redesigned site soon. If you have any questions about anything, please let me know.

I go with GIMP. It's not quite as nice as Photoshop, but still pretty nice and free.

Thanks for the ideas – seems like I will be busy with word and clip art for a few hours.

I created my logo in Creative Suite/Illustrator. It's a bit expensive but it gives me the freedom to create any custom art I need – like banner ads, icons, etc.
As for Themes, I bought Canvas from Woo Themes and love it. I have control over almost everything (are you noticing a trend here, lol). It's around $100 – framework and theme, but it was so simple to use once I became familiar with all the options.

I made all of my logos on all of my sites with Adobe Illustrator. Once you get the hand of the program, it's great. I use dafont to find the font(s) that I want to use (be careful to check the commons on the fonts) which can take FOREVER. I generally look around for a color scheme, and I love to use colorcombos.com for ideas. Then, I find my vector for my favicon/logo – using vectorstock.
It actually takes quite awhile, but it's worth it!

I use Photoshop Elements, which is like the home users' version of Photoshop. Good luck!

PicMonkey is way easier than Photoshop and is free online. I use that for most blog headers.

You may want to get professional help, Your logo, fonts, color scheme etc. will go a long way in retaining one-time visitors. These are equally important as the content. So a little investment won't be bad.
