I've been blogging for 11 years and never really "optimized" my site. It was just a repository for my on-air stuff while I was hosting a talk show.
I'd like to take advantage of the traffic and optimize it. Is there anybody who would mind checking it out and offering some suggestions.
My blog is GreggHenson.com

Sorry Gregg but I kept getting a 403 Forbidden error and couldn't access your site.
When you say "optimization," can you tell us what you are trying to optimize: layout, SEO, converting to subscribers, etc.

Thanks for trying to get to the site. Right now I am getting the 403 error on Firefox only. I have no idea why.
I would like some feedback about layout, seo, etc.

Well I'm pretty useless when it comes to SEO, ETC (see how I did that w/ acronyms…?). But I was able to get to your site in IE. I only saw the one post, which I hadn't seen before… but w/r/t layout, etc., I saw nothing that jumped out at me as being problematic. I assume that's a new site though, right?

The blog isn't new, but after I started getting error messages I move it today from Typepad to Wordpress. All the posts are now up and I will continue refining it tonight. Would love to hear your thoughts if you get time to recheck it.

Same Gregg Henson that used to host the sports talk show and such in Detroit, I presume?

The error could be because he is in the process of moving from typepad to Wordpress? Maybe you caught him while in transition.

Site looks good. Since you are focused pretty heavy on Twitter, you should have a prominent follow button near the top.
Also, I'd move the Categories menu to the menu bar and put a call to action there as well (Join the Melee! or something like that). That way you can get subscribers. If you prefer people subscribe via Twitter, then you can make that even more prominent.
For SEO I'd get the Yoast Wordpress SEO plugin, does almost everything.
Otherwise just resist the urge to add more widgets.
