It is pretty obvious that Wordpress is the most popular or common blog engine.
I am very impressed with many of the blogs I see that are powered by Wordpress. They seem to have more and better customizeable layout options.
Am I the only one who actually uses Blogger.com? Blogger was just the first I ever tried. I became familiar with it and it is all I've ever used for blogging.
Blogger just came out with new Dynamic Views. I am impressed, but am hesitant to use them because of the lack of customization that is available. In an instant, all of the work I put into the layout of my blog pages is lost within a template. I reverted to my original (simple) design.
Even if I did want to switch, say to Wordpress, isn't it too late after building up a library of content?
Where is your blog powered, and why?

I moved mine from Blogger to Wordpress about a year and a half ago after I decided to shell out for my own URL. Wordpress lets you import all your old posts so you don't lose any content.
My main recommendation would be to go with a theme that's current and being updated. My theme hasn't been updated in years and so my site functionality is way behind lots of others.

I started on Blogger back in February and moved to Wordpress in July. I really wish I had switched sooner – all my rankings were reset and I had to start over with Alexa (though it dropped super fast the second time). I'll be honest; I hated Wordpress at first because of all the nitpicky issues with transferring my site. I nearly quit blogging altogether. But once the move was done, I've been much happier.
There are lots of tutorials online for exporting your Blogger stuff to Wordpress. If you're thinking about it, I would encourage you to do it sooner rather than later.

I currently use Blogger but am likely to switch to WordPress in the next 3-6 months.

Like Andrea, I started out on Blogger and moved to WordPress. Like Andrea, I had to start over with my Alexa ranking but it dropped much faster the second time. And like Andrea, the transition almost made me quit blogging all together because it was painful and frustrating. I think I might have cried. I definitely yelled and cursed a lot.
But…I'm so glad I made the transition. I am much happier with the ease and functionality of WordPress and I like having more control over my site. It's absolutely not too late because, as the others mentioned, there are plug-ins you can use to transfer Blogger content to WordPress, including the comments (this may or may not have been the part where I cried). I would suggest that, should you move to a WordPress self-hosted site (I'm not sure if you go from Blogger to a free WordPress if it would be as easy. Or even possible. So I'm going to assume you're moving to a self-hosted site), you let your readers know so they know where to find you!

IF I make the move, I would move my URL as well, so I don't think my Alexa rankings would be affected. I've never even looked into Wordpress, have only seen others blogs. I'll have to think on this one for awhile. Maybe wait for more comments and see what others suggest.

I started with Wordpress and I'm fairly comfortable with the platform.
Don't write-off TypePad (pun intended). Seth Godin uses TypePad and I think his look absolutely rocks. I think it's ok to be different.

I think all the biggest bloggers have thrown in the towel and gone to wordpress. Good luck!
If you get stuck with anything, I have a good webmaster who can help-but there are many experts here.

I used to use Weebly, which is a drag-and-drop website building template. It was really easy. But I made the switch to Wordpress for the blog I have right now. It's just so much more customizable. Plus, a lot of really useful plugins are available only with wordpress.

Started on Blogger, moved to Wordpress after 2 months. Wish I would have started on it.
As far as a backend site, Wordpress gets my vote for more customization abilities. Also there are certain things that Google won't let you do on Blogger that I'd rather not be restrained by.
It will be a seamless transition since you already have your posts on your own URL. I had to start from scratch.

I also started on blogger but switched soon after to wordpress. Not having to switch would have been easier but you live and you learn.

jana,
btw, your Yakezie 'signature' link still leads to your blogspot address. Both of your sites were very nice though.
Still not sure if I'm going to switch, but leaning more and more towards Wordpress. Will probably be better in the long run.

I still use Weebly for my 'main' website – RamblingFever.com
Both of my blogs are set up as sub-domains – blog.ramblingfever.com and money.ramblingfever.com
The Alexa ranking system actually treats them all as one, so if I switch my money blog to Wordpress, I will simply direct it to that sub-domain.
You are right about Weebly being really easy though. I still use the free version and it suits me just fine! I use my weebly site as sort of a portal to my blogs.

I started on Blogger in 2010 and have not yet made the switch. Now with 500 posts, it's almost too much trouble to move over. However, I am quite sure that Wordpress is superior, and I have several sites that I've started on Wordpress now so that I can learn how it works for a future transfer of my main site.

Wordpress all the way – customization is great, as well as SEO and ease of use.

I've tried both and I LOVE WP. I love the functionality of the wordpress plugins. Just today I wanted to change my fonts (which, granted is way easy with Blogger) but I wanted to use some of Google's free fonts- and a plugin took care of it. I also have a Mailchimp plugin, and others for LinkWithin and plenty of other handy goodies that just make everything so snazzy!
I suppose it boils down to the fact that I wanted my blog to be open to growth, professional and customizable and having my own domain and lots of free templates that were more versatile was part of my decision. :) Blogger is handy but once you learn WP it gets better!

It's pretty much unanimous.. Wordpress is better.
One big selling point for me is that most Wordpress blogs I read via my Blackberry are much easier to read. Wordpress's mobile version must be far superior to Blogger's. I even have my Blogger settings set to mobile, but still get the full html site when I load it on my phone. Very annoying to have to scroll back and forth to read a post. I might switch for this reason alone.
For now, Blogger accomplishes what I need – but as I get more into this I can see that I should switch to Wordpress. I just hope my content writing doesn't suffer too much as I make the transition. I can see that it will be easy to spend hours playing around with layouts, gadgets, plug-ins and whatever.

I moved from Blogger to Wordpress after about 2-3 months since I wantedto be part of pingbacks and trackbacks and have access to plugins. Here was my post about it: http://www.budgetinginthefunst…..wordpress/

I know I am in the minority, but I use Blogger and love it. If I were to make blogging a full-time business I could see some benefits to WP, but for my needs I am more than happy with Blogger and have no plans to switch in the near future.
