Breaking 100K on Alexa!

It took me 32 days to go from 200K to 100K! Just by an inch, my ranking as of today is 99,953. It got harder in the end, and I suspect that I need to either put an considerable amount of extra work into my blog or let it stall around that mark. Traffic is up and so is organic traffic, so maybe not? What are your experiences once you broke 100K?

Congrats Pauline!  It has slowed down a bit for me, maybe a change of 1000-1500 per day. After it passed the 100k mark, I stopped tracking it so much and putting my efforts at other things. I think if you keep doing what you've been doing, you should be fine and see a continued, but slower descent.

Thank you John! I am not too focused on it either but the toolbar is a constant reminder!

Congrats. I never made it to the 100k mark. I was holding steady around 160k before I changed to my .com and had to start over again. But I'm already under 500k in 2 weeks. Hopefully by the end of the year I will have my old ranking back.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Well done, Pauline! Good work. I have no experience of going below 100K – have been hovering at the cusp for about a year (broke 200K on January 1st, 2012 – how about that :)). But one would expect that is is harder and a bit more unstable.

Your traffic being the same it should go down in no time!

Thank you Maria, I am sure it is pretty unstable down there and expect a loss as soon as I relax a little!

At one point, my blog was well under 100k.  Honestly, I think that was due to a lot of time available for commenting on a ton of other blogs.  To me, that seems to drive Alexa rankings, as people with a tool bar visit your blog after you visit theirs regularly.

Once my regular available time changed back to normal – with a normal, sustainable level of commenting on other blogs – my Alexa went back over 100k. Its now around 182k.  But, my search traffic and overall blog reach increasd during that time.

Honestly, I don't think Alexa ranking is super important or worth investing a lot of energy into. Or, not as much as it seems to matter on the surface.  It seems fun and challenging, but in the end it doesn't influence at ton IMO.  Not at all saying its worthless, but there are other blog metrics that probably matter more.

You are very right that it is mostly powered by other bloggers, but a fun metric to keep motivated, and one that advertisers seem to value.
