Hello,

I hope you are all doing well. I have been at this blogging thing for close to two months now and you have all been a tremendous help. I wanted to get your opinion on what to expect for typical traffic growth when starting a new blog so I can have some sort of benchmark to measure myself against. I have spent most of the first 2 months networking and trying to pump out good content twice a week. I haven't seen my traffic grow much, I am averaging between 20-25 views per day, but my Alexa ranking has dropped from ~12 million to ~600k. If anyone would be willing to share any perspective on this it would be appreciated.

Also, if anyone is interested I would love to get some feedback/critiques on my site and content. If you are interested I would gladly link to an article of yours for your time.

Thanks!

I don;t think there is any set benchmark you can gauge yourself against. While there is plenty of info out there on how to try and build traffic, each blog is going to grow at its own rate. I've found the most important things to do are to focus on creating quality content and interact with other blogs & bloggers through commenting, sharing their posts, interacting on social media etc..

Mostly what it takes is time. Two months is really nothing at all. My blog is about a year & a half old and it's really only over the past 6 months that I've seen my traffic begin to pick up. I'm far from an authority on this stuff, but just focus on networking and writing quality material and the traffic will come.

I would challenge you on what makes you different.  It may take some time.  It may be quick.

Once you figure it out, harness it and promote.

Also, what are you doing to get your name out in front of other audiences?  Guest posts, answering questions, emailing people about your posts?  It's not just about putting out great content, but also about promoting it.

Congrats on the Alexa score drop! When my blog was on Blogger I had on average about 100-150 views per day after about 1 year of not so seriously trying to boost traffic. Maybe just stick with setting goals for yourself every month or so and try to obtain those numbers? I know for my audience, social media, especially Facebook has boosted my views a bit.

Thank you to those of you who offered constructive advice. One reason why I love blogging is because most people are very willing to help new bloggers out. I realize most of my questions are at a pretty basic level, but I want my blog to be the best it can be, so I will continue to ask questions to make it so. I have been working on trying to define more of a specific "niche" for my blog and I really want it to show my personality (i.e. I want it to be "different"). Thanks for all of the support.

You can ask most I am a very helpful person especially when it comes to new bloggers.  The only reason you received that response is clearly only care about metrics.

From what I've noticed, Nick has been one of the more engaging and interactive challengers that have started over the last few weeks (no disrespect to any of our other new challengers).  Evan, I know that many times we get a new challenger announce that they're here and their very next forum post is asking how they can conquer the world.  I don't think this is a case of that.

I hope I am wrong, and happy to apologize if he is still around in a few months.  If you search the forums, every single challenger that keeps asking about metrics ALWAYS quit relatively shortly thereafter.  100% of the time.

My Journey to Millions…I recently joined up as well and I hope to not disappoint either. I've been doing this for a good year without making much in terms of money at all, but have been doing it for the learning experience instead. I'm totally aware of the hard work that needs to go in.

Nick, thanks for being so engaged you've helped get conversations started that have helped me out as well!

Lauren,

There is something wrong with your blog.  It doesn't go to the archive/newest post automatically.  If you are trying to have a landing page you should make the blog portion of it much easier to find.

Thanks,

I've just switched it back to my recent posts and removed the static page. Makes life simpler
