Hi Everyone!
I've been part of this community and challenge for almost 2 months, and I am grateful for everything I've learned as well as the new contacts I've made. When I joined the Yakezie, my Alexa ranking was 1,342,157 (7/21/11). Today, it's 635,476. What I'm hoping to gain from this post is your input on how to enhance my ranking and ultimately, my blog. I've hit a plateau in terms of my ranking, and I'm looking for some suggestions from you experts out there on how to keep up the momentum.
So please feel free to check out my blog and offer your suggestions–anything is welcome including constructive criticism of my design, layout, post content, etc. I want to hear what you have to say!
Thanks in advance for any information/help you are able to provide.
Happy blogging!
~HH

Build more relationships w/ Yakezie members and more will visit your site.
You can do this by discussing things on the forum and by visiting other peoples sites yourself, and commenting.
2 suggestions …

I joined in the beginning of July (I think) with an Alexa rank of 5 million+, and now I'm at 190k. All I did was follow the mantra of posting regularly (I usually do 3-4 per week), and selflessly promoting others by tweeting their posts, retweeting their tweets, commenting on blogs, giving +1s on G+, voting on Tip'd, etc. If you do most of the things consistently and you have pretty good content, you should start seeing the rank drop again. I think the best thing I did was to actually communicate with people, not just tweet or leave silly comments like "nice post, keep it up". Just have patience and keep at it.

I am no expert, but got benefited by doing what SPF and Eric said above. I see you missing from summer or fall teams. Thats a great opportunity loss. Talk to Suba and get yourself in one of the teams.
Even in falls teams, the bottom line is helping others first.

I'm not an expert, but I have been watching my alexa ranking drop like crazy. The best advice that I have been following is to network. Participate in the forum, comment on other challengers/members' blogs, tweet, etc. If you do this regularly, it will fall. That's what all the Yakezie experts have said and I have been following it as much as I can, and it is working! Keep at it. You can do it.

Visit and comment in the forum more often. With the exception of this post I hadn't seen you on here in quite some time…there are so many of us now, we need a friendly reminder of everyone to visit and socialize with. Comment on more peoples blogs, I usually comment back on every comment I get.

Thank you all for such quick responses!
@Sustainable–will do for sure. I comment regularly on non-Yakezie blogs but I know for sure that I'll be picking up the slack ASAP around here.
@Eric–nice work! Thanks for your feedback.
@OneCent–I couldn't agree more. I in no way want to seem selfish in terms of asking for help with my own ranking, I'm just new to all of this and am very curious because of the impressive amount of information all of you have to offer (not to mention these fantastic blogs I'm finding daily!). I will definitely figure out how to join one of the teams you've mentioned; I didn't know if you had to be at a certain ranking first in order to do so.
@20s–Certainly will do; thanks!
@Money–I'm working on being more consistent here for sure; thank you!

In addition to commenting on other blogs, you can also tell your readers to install the Alexa toolbar.

Actually, I joined the day after you did, so I did some checking and found that you are doing pretty well in other areas. Your PR is 2 and the site has a MozRank of 4.30 which is almost identical to mine, plus you got that post on Amber's "Balance Series" so you're on the right track, so keep working and your Alexa should start to fall in line.

The problem I have with Yakezie is that it's not an accurate reflection of a blog's traffic.

Agreed. These avenues really do help with building your blog and you end up with some from great friends too. I suggest you give them a try.

It's really true – Miss T and I are in the same group and have already begun conversations about exchanging recipes. :)

Yakezie has nothing to do with a reflection of a blog's traffic. Yakezie is a network of bloggers.
Alexa ranking is what you should question, not this great network.

Looks like you got some great advice already, but it's pretty simple. Write quality content, participate in these forums, comment on other blogs, and selflessly promote others. That alone should get you below 100k. :)

What I would suggest is find the forum thread about the small groups and join one of those. I was stuck in the 300's for ages until I did that. Also – just like everyone else said, stop by other yakezie sites and comment (esp for your fellow challengers)

This is why I'm so happy to be part of this community…thank you to all of you for the great feedback.
Suba is awesome and has added me to the Fall group list, so I'm now officially part of team 3 (woot, woot!).

Hey Happy Homeowner,
Holla! Team 3
You have some great posts. I wouldn't worry too much it will go down. Like everyone said, just start building relationships wot other bloggers and consistently post and it will happen.
Good luck!

I like what everyone has said here so far. Specifically, the things that have made my Alexa drop the most were as follows –
1) joining Yakezie, which you've already done, just keep up getting involved,
2) HOSTING (not just submitting to) financial blog carnivals, and
3) hosting a giveaway on my site (or some other event that gets people involved – I did the Tour de Personal Finance in July and got a great response!)
Also – would HIGHLY recommend you buy your own domain. I use Blogger/Blogspot hosting as well, so can offer any help you need. Also, would recommend editing your html design to get rid of the Nav Bar.

What I did was just network with other bloggers – especially in this network, since we all should have the toolbar installed. Also, you may want to ask your readers to install it as well.
Other than that, just ignore the ranking and keep plugging away with great articles and building relationships.
