Can Anyone Recommend a Quality Low Cost Host Provider?

I have been blogging for over 2.5 years now and have used Pair Networks since that time.  I have had incredible service with them and no issues at all.  However, the costs of using them far outweigh those of some of the low cost providers.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a low cost provider that also offers quality service as I am thinking of swtiching.

Thanks!

I don't know about anyone else, but I've loved my experience with Go Daddy. It's cheap, tech suport is 24 hours here in the U.S., they're friendly, and I've experienced maybe a total of 3 hours downtime in almost 2 years. Plus, they saved me when I screwed up my database when migrating betwen Serendipity platform to Wordpress.  If you search enough online, you can find a decent coupon code. If you pay a year up front you also get a discount.

I pay $4.95 a month with Host Gator. I have had no problems with them at all. My site went down twice and they had it back up in no time. Great customer service over the phone or chats!

I haven't used anyone else, so I really can't compare. I have an affiliate banner on my site (bottom right sidebar) if you want to sign up and help me out! Of course, there's no pressure to use it.

Oh, and for that price I get unlimited email accounts, domains to be hosted, space, and traffic!

I've used both godaddy and 1and1.  I had some issues with speed on godaddy, so have been using mostly 1and1 for the hosting.  Can't stand their domain tools though, so I still do most of my domain management through godaddy.

Lunarpages is great up to a certain traffic level.  Once I was getting close to 1000 pageviews a day I started to have issues.  I then switched to Media Temple.

Cheap hosting is good but what are your current traffic levels and what do you think they will be in the next year?  It may be worth paying some more for better hosting.

I am boycotting Godaddy because of their sexist commercials;  I don't think they've noticed though:).

I'm very happy with my host, Justhost.  They're inexpensive and I've had minimal downtime over the past year plus.

I have accounts with Host Gator and Bluehost…no complaints with either.  I've heard horror stories of Godaddy holding domains hostage but I don't have firsthand experience with their hosting.

I used 1and1 a few years ago and their service sucked.  Their server crashed and all my sites were down for a week.  I called multiple times and never got a clear response of what was going on and when I asked them to transfer my sites to a functional server so I could stop losing money they refused.  I ditched them a short time later.

I bought my domain from GoDaddy but I am hosted by Host Monster – they had a few issues in the last few weeks but their online chat help is awesome.  I paid $5.95 per month (I paid about $72 for the year).  I may switch next year if they keep going down due to electrical problems…

I used to be on Godaddy, but I found the speed to be on the slow side, and the website is too bloated for me.

For the past couple of years, I've been with bluehost, and I've had a good experience with them up until now. If ever you want to sign up with them, here's my shameless affiliate link plug ;) : http://www.bluehost.com/track/…..ly/hosting

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions.  I have also heard some questionable things about GoDaddy, but tend to buy all of my domain names there because of the discounts they offer.

I also used lunarpages at one point paying $4-5/month for shared hosting. After i reached around 1000 pv a day it started to get bogged down and have constant outages.

I'm now on a dedicated virtual server with Media Temple – which is more expensive – $30/month, but well worth it in my eyes as it hasn't had a major outage in the year and a half i've been with them – and i host 6-7 sites on that server.

Quality AND low cost? That's the holy grail of web hosting. I suppose it depends on your definitions of quality and low cost. For a site earning $100k a year, splurging on hosting for $150 a month shouldn't be too much of a big deal. For a site earning $1,000 a year, you'll want to stick to nearly-free hosting, even if not completely reliable, and let your tech requirements grow with the site's income.

In terms of a recommendations, I have high praise for MediaTemple's dedicated virtual — that starts at $50 a month. Make sure you're properly managing your own back-ups, though.

Anybody use justhost? They seems to be getting good review on the internet.

I'm just starting out and looking around for a good webhost too.

I'll say HostGator as well. I tried BlueHost first and it worked good for a little while then it seemed like every other day my site was down. The great part is it went down at lunch time so no site to visit for those folks. But I really think it's luck of the draw because I've heard people not having problems with them. But since I switched to HostGator I haven't gone down at all, knock on wood.

I use Bluehost and have no complaints ($6.95/mo). When I have tech support issues they answer my call without any hold time and are very helpful (which is difficult to find these days).

As for downtime, I setup pingdom.com (just enter your domain and email address) to send me a text or email anytime I lose service.  Since setting it up, it appears my site is only down for a total of about 5 minutes every other week, usually in off hours….pretty reliable if you ask me.

Feel free to email me if you want any advice or help on setting up cpanel there, i'd be happy to give out my number and walk you through it.

I've been using nearly free speech and it's worked very well for all my sites. They do a kind of prepay bucket plan. None of my sites are huge hits, but host 4 blogs averages around $10/month. The catch? It's a bit more DIY, but I'm not a techie and I've been able to do it.

I also started a site for a friend on bluehost and they seem pretty good if you know what you're doing. Tech support wasn't the best.

I am with Flexo – I have been using MediaTemple – but they don't really fit into most people's definition of low cost – they start at $20/month, but their DV servers start at $50 (which is what I use). But for a cheaper option – I really like bluehost.
