After a couple of reviews on my site I have been approached by several competitors and asked to review them, interview their CEO etc…
What's the best route here- interview and review for free for content
Or
Charge them for a review to be posted on my site
Thoughts?

I wouldn't charge to interview anyone. I've been interviewed for other business ventures a number of times, and I've never paid. (Of course, I've never asked to be interviewed, either. :) )

How about review and add affiliate links?

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I'm not sure they have an affiliate program, but will check. Typically I wouldn't think to charge but I was approached by them, their VP of Marketing who asked me to look at them and that she would introduce me to the CEO for Q&A so I'm figuring they are doing this to benefit from the marketing they would receive from my site.
Just wondering if the content is enough return for the effort to produce a post on them if they are coming to me, or if I should ask for a fee since its not something I would have written about myself since the firm was unknown to me.
I know firms commission Forrester and Gartner for reports that highlight their strengths… So it's the sort of concept as this.

You can ask for a reciprocal link, if they can give it and they have link juice.

Why would you take the pain to review or interview if there's no incentive? Unless you yourself using it and want to spread the good/bad word…

That's a good idea – I just wonder if a professional company will link to a blog review… I think it is certainly a good thing to ask them.

Well we all want content and to be the SME that drives traffic to our site, so just being in a position to produce content with CEO level insight has a degree of value I believe. I am just not sure if that is enough incentive if they are the ones coming to me.

I'm with Jenny on this one. Say you will do it for free as long as they link to the review. I think that's a fair deal. If they are not up for this at least it opens up negotiation and they might have an idea of something else they can give you.

I don't think saying I'll do something for free if you do X is a good way to start a negotiation :) But I get where you guys are coming from and will certainly be looking for this sort of value.

I am a CEO of a company and so is my Wife it just so happens that the 2 companies are TINY. Ignore the titles for a second. Is the company Intuit or is the company "Joe Schmo Payday loan company?"
They are offering this to you not because of your page views – they are doing it for the link back. So unless the company is a legit company you have heard of or have a cool product then treat it like anyone else asking for a link. Just my humble opinion

Its a legit company. They have been around for over 10 years and have about 50 million in assets.

I was just asked to be interviewed by another blogger. I would not ask to be paid nor would I offer to pay for that type of service. However, if a company would like to insert links into a post or review, I will charge.
