Hey folks,

Just wanted to leave a quick note to let you know that Consumerism Commentary is matching charitable contributions for the next few weeks. This was very successful last year, with readers donating over $4,000 to their own charities, and we matched the total amount reported with a contribution to a non-profit. I'm doing the same thing thing this year and would love to see us reach the goal of $5,000 matched for a total of $10,000 donated during this time frame.

Here's the info:

This is fantastic!  This will definitely be going into my roundup next week and I Tweeted.  If I donate, I will be sure to send the receipt your way as requested!  FANTABULOUS!!!

I plan on donating to a charity today and sending the receipt on over.  Thank you so much for letting us know about this!  I will try and fit it into a post this week.

I love this idea. In fact, what do you guys think of going for $50K in matching funds, or maybe even $100K? There are so many of us in the Yakezie, that if we each agreed to match an additional amount, we could maybe get the total up like that. If Flexo gets $6K in contributions, I'll match the amount from $5k to $6k by sending my portion ($1000) to http://www.nothingbutnets.net. What do you all think?

I'd be all for that! Post here if you're willing to provide a matching contribution, how much, and to what charity (501(c)3 only). We could either work it sequentially, like Jackie suggests, or layered, so each contribution (up to a personal limit) is matched by everyone. I think sequentially could be more interesting, but it would take a massive push to get the word out so everyone who is interested gets to participate. FYI I offered to match $4,000 last year but donations fell slightly short of that.

I think this is a great idea! When I get home, I'll discuss this with my wife. I am currently the Treasurer for a small non-profit that runs an orphanage in Haiti: http://www.oasisforchildren.org/

Thanks for putting this up, Flexo!

Hm, not a lot of response to this (although I'm glad Khaleef is interested.) But I'm in for the $1000 regardless.

Hello Jackie!

I think it's a great idea–but the numbers seem staggering to me. (I guess that shows my small blog earnings thus far:)). I am all about charitable donations though, so I'm sure we can all work together on something.

Well, even $50K would break down to something like $200 per person (after subtracting the $6K already committed) since there are so many of us.  But! You can always contribute to any charity and submit your receipt, and that will help the matching funds get used :)

To give anyone interested an update — we have more participants this year than last year! Yay! The total dollar amount donated is less than last year! Boo! There's still time if you're interested in participating.
