TSQ – Excellent post. You handled that person far better than I would. Knowing that she's disabled, getting things paid for shouldn't be a problem at all.
As someone who receives limited financial support from parents in them allowing me to live in their home, their support is limited in light of my overall cost of living. Unfortunately, FASFA interprets "independent" and "dependent" children differently than the tax code, so being without financial support from parents is far worse in your twenties than it is in your adult years. That is to say that no matter how separated my finances are from my parents, their income and assets still affect my ability to borrow, get loans, etc, even without their help until I reach…26, I think. I wouldn't want it anyway, but still–I got a bone to pick with you, government!
On a more personal level, I'm glad that people like you are able to take advantage of available grants out there. Best of luck to you in your education, and I wish you the best in getting your degree!

Thanks, you guys! It's been a busy day and I've been really pleased with the response. :) I've gotten 1000 visitors and 2800 page views today, when the average is closer to 200 visitors and 450 page views. So definitely a boost!
The disgruntled poster has posted on my blog before (and I've left her comments!) I didn't expect it to move to GRS but it's not too big a deal.
JT – you're independent at 24 for the FAFSA, no matter how financially independent you really are before that!
Derek – write a post, send it over, and cross your fingers. That's what I did and J.D. e-mailed me to let me know he liked it. :)
