Hi folks,

Today our articles got 8 comments from a single visitor who had never commented before.  6 of the 8 comments are decent. 1 comment makes no sense and 1 comment I believe is an insult but i'm not sure toward who.

medicaltourismind.com

Medical Toursim India.  He input his email @yahho.com also.

What would you do with these comments?  Is he just trying to get links?

Thanks.

I guess you just have to ask yourself if they are of any real value and if you really want a visitor that is going to spam your comments.  As far as I am concerned if it looks like spam, or they aren't contributing something worthwhile, then you are better off without them.  I'd delete them all.

I would keep the ones that are relevant only.

I use the Delink Comment Author plugin in cases like these: http://wordpress.org/extend/pl…..nt-author/

It allows you to keep the comment, but remove the link!

Hi Khaleef – how do you judge using the delink?  Is it based on the URL content?

I actually like 75% of this persons comments and think they add value to our site.  The other 25% no chance I want to post them given the ambiguity/aggressive/uselessness of the comment.

I'm just not sure whether putting 6 – 8 comments with links to this particular site is smart to do.

Agreed – I would keep only the ones that add value. And remove all the links.

If it's clear that the person is only after links – you'll sometimes see searches leading to your site looking for certain keywords and sites that use dofollow or commentluv – then I will at least delink them. Most of the time, I'll just send the comment into spam.

I would normally approve comments that adds value to the site. From what I see, that commenter is just spamming your site and if you're getting comments that does not make no sense, I would just delete all the comments but it's all up to you.

Lol I got spammed by that guy too. Regardless of the source if a comment is relevant and useful I usually keep it around. The links are no-followed anyways. If the comment is too spammy though it goes into the bin.

6 comments, same article? I would delete it right away. the only reason why he is commenting is to get backlinks ;-)

seriously, nobody would ever write 6 comments (if not replying to other comments) on a post….

I would delete them all. I have no way of proving this, but I think that some spammers have ways of checking if their initial less spammy comments get approved and once they get confirmation of this then it is open season on your site.

I've got this one John, Johnn, Jonn, Jon, 1234 abcd guy who eventually snuck a comment through my spam filter and ever since that I've been getting a ton more.

I use Mollom as a spam filter and they STILL haven't been smart enough to catch every single one of them. Hey modifies his name slightly with different spellings of "John" and managed to trick the filter maybe once out of every 20 tries.

Haha, SavingMentor, it really isn't a grand conspiracy, there are actually tools out there to do exactly what you mentioned.  They go through lists of urls, examine the html and seek out a specific link.  Once found, they're put into a new list that the spammer is sure to see as an easy backlink list, or even better, one where the comments are automatically approved.

As I said, 6 comments (on different posts) were decent.

One was mean and the first didn't make sense.  So 75% good.  Maybe i'll just go delete them all.  I didn't like his "mean" comment much.

I do love the GASP plugin – we get virtually no spam aside from content thieves pingbacks.  Using a check box to prove the writer is human works great.  I hate using captcha.  If I fail when leaving a comment I just leave the blog.  Sometimes I don't go back.

Ya, thanks for confirming it. I figured that was exactly how it would work!

So wishing that first comment didn't slip through my spam filter :(
