Good advice here..
I comment on Daisy and MoneyInfant's site all the time, and they seem to return the favor whenever they can :-)
I think this is what Yakezie is all about.
Shamelessly promoting others blogs, and providing motivation.
It is definitely motivating to get feedback on your posts after you write them.

I've discovered this myself with Daisy, and a few others. And yes, it appears that Yakezie is about promoting the blogs other members and challengers. Getting feedback on brand new (and even old posts) is a beautiful thing. It's certainly what has been keeping me in the posting and commenting game.

I think a quality post I am more likely to return the love. If I get a nice article, that leads me to believe you are just looking for love back….excuse the expression…lol….just my 2 cents…enjoy the beautiful day…well it is here in the north east!!

Depending on the post you will also see a change in posts. Congrats on getting comments. It's fun when people read.

I'm confused. Are you saying that you're likely to comment on quality posts, but only if the blogger doesn't give you the impression that he/she is just looking for a return comment on his/her blog? I'm so sorry, but I'm not clear on what you mean.

On a side note, I've noticed that my comment numbers have tripled since I went from Blogger to Wordpress.

No i meant a quality comment…if you come by and say good post. I am more likely to return a comment on your blog if you show that you skimmed or read my article. Maybe not the best strategy but it weeds out the comment farming of some.

I didn't even really try with my blog until I switched to wordpress, so I can't really weigh in regarding improvements, however, I do know that I'm a million times more likely to comment on a wordpress blog, because it makes it way easier.

Yes, I had learned early in the blogging game that Wordpress is better than Blogger. Other bloggers with Wordpress take you more seriously when you're a Wordpress blogger than when you're using Blogger. That was a good move on your part.

I see what you mean, and I agree with you totally. With each comment that I make, it's my general rule to avoid short and meaningless comments like "good post". I may add it after I've written a long detailed comment, but I don't just say "good post" and then move on to 30 other blogs, and repeat the same thing. I think you have a very good strategy for weeding out mere comment seekers. Thanks for clarifying that.

I'm curious. Why did you make the switch? It was a great decision, and it obviously helped get more traffic to your blog. Also, most people are likely to comment on a Wordpress blog platform than other platform, because it's far more popular and most people trust it more. It also gives the impression that you're a serious blogger.

It looks like the number of comments on your posts is increasing so I assume the commenting strategy is working? Keep it up and at some point the traffic becomes somewhat self-sustaining. Good job so far though.

Anthony,
I think everyone has given good advice. I really believe that writing quality content is the key. Another way is to give link love to content that you enjoy. Nonetheless, I understand your dilemma. It would be nice to have a group of bloggers who want to actively read and comment on each other's blogs.

I'm getting anywhere from 10-20 comments on most of my posts and that is totally due to commenting on other blogs and making friends here at Yakezie. The blog is just 6 weeks young. Give and ye shall receive :)
I'm not sure how others do it, but I like to add my commenters blogs to a dedicated list in my feed reader and they get priority in my commenting schedule.
I do that last part, too. It's worked for me, though not nearly as successfully! I'll just have to try to comment on even more blogs. I also find that when I do local posts, I get less comments. But on facebook I'll have people reply to my shares, so I know the information is out there and being read and sometimes even helpful. So I keep doing some features on local events. I don't want to lose my non-commenting readership.

Thank you for the observation and compliment. The commenting strategy has been working. I will keep it up. I appreciate your feedback.

I glad you understand. All of this is a bit overwhelming for me, but my intention isn't to cry wolf. I just wanted to see what others had to say about this matter, and to see if I was either on the right track or missing something. The answer is that it was a combination of the two. The advice has been really helpful, and I really appreciate it.

I'm commenting on more blogs, but will have to try commenting on even more blogs. That's what I've concluded.

I'm starting to get a very small trickle of comments to my blog posts. Sure, I would love to get a bunch of them for a single post, but a small trickle is better than zero. I spent the last year and a half writing weekly posts, and getting no comments at all. This is majorly my fault, because I hadn't commented on posts of other bloggers. This was partially due to laziness, and not having built up a network with other bloggers. But now, I get it. I'm starting to comment, which I believe is mainly the reason I'm starting to see a small number of comments to my posts.
However, I would love to know how long it took most of you, before you went from zero to multiple comments to your blog posts, and what you did to get 10 – 20 comments yourself. I could sure use some encouragement. Thanks all.
Hey Glen, I think it's all about time in the blogosphere and commenting on others sites. The more you comment on other peoples sites, the more they will come and check you out. But…. it really does take a lot of time :) Some folks use google reader and subscribe to their favorite blogs, making it easier to comment. Good luck. Barb

Thanks Barb. I've started subscribing to certain blogs that I like. I use Google reader as well, but I'm afraid that it's not that helpful for my particular niche.

I am getting a very small number of comments. I have seen lots of blogs ask a question at the end of their posts for readers to reply to, but I have not tried that strategy yet. I comment on the blogs I read, which is a lot. Other than that I just hope that what I am writing is good enough that people feel the need to tell me that, or that they have a question related to what I posted.
I am happy to find that I have found a couple of repeat commenters, which is a really good feeling knowing that there are people out there looking forward to your writing enough that they will read and then take more time to write something to you.
Good luck with your comments.
