Hi guys,
Here is some history.
November – ~9%
December ~11%
January ~17% so far.
I am feeling really good about this. Can established bloggers share their search volume? I think 25-33% would be really great, but I would be happy as long as it is improving. There are a lot more that I can do with SEO too, I am still learning.
Best keywords for me
- retire at/by 40
- strength finder 2.0 (I did a book review a while back…)
- xtranormal npr ( my best post so far)

Measuring search volume by percentage is a bit odd, but I guess you mean in relation to your total traffic. That's all well and good until you get a major hit article that makes it on a big site and it blows everything out of whack. Your 17% would jump back down pretty quick in that case.
My normal search engine traffic is at about 48% these days but that includes some residual referal traffic from big articles. Before I ever got featured anywhere big, my search engine traffic was about 62%.

I get less than 10% of my traffic through search engines. Good stats!

Well, I never had an article go viral or anything, so that may explain these numbers:
November – 40.44%
December – 38.13%
January (as of 1/13/11) – 60.46%
I am focusing a lot more on making my site a resource, and ramping up my SEO efforts is a large part of that.

24.50% from google, but most importantly much of it is for the same key words with clicky readers. I would say 3 articles give me 85% of my adsense revenue.

Wow, that is an amazing number. What position do these articles rank for their keyword?

I get about 24% of my traffic from search engines. I would like to up it to 40% by the end of year. SEO is something I'll be focusing on throughout the year to get it there.

My three main sites get 60%, 75%, and 80% of their traffic from search engines. That is about 3-4 thousand hits a month. The two sites with higher traffic from search engines are written more for search engines than readers though. Having a high percentage of my traffic come from search engines may not mean that I'm doing great at get search engine traffic but that I'm doing a poor job of attracting direct traffic.

I usually get about 80% of my traffic from search engines. This month dropped to 60% because I had two posts take off – one on Reddit and one was linked to by Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income.
I have 3 "pillar" type posts that rank 1-3 on Google if you search for them, and that drives a lot of my traffic.

Thanks for sharing everyone!
I'm asking because I thought search engine traffic are usually the people that click on ads thrust drive revenue. Is this true?
@ College Investor – WOW 80% that is mind blowing. I'm planning a big pillar post, but it will take me quite a while to put it together.
@ KNS – Khaleef, you % looks really great too.

You should aim for 70-80% traffic from SE. This is where the money is ;-)
Unless you want to develop products or services but that's another ballgame…
I have left Reddit, Stumble Upon, Digg and the others social bookmarking sites. They bring a lot of traffic but they don't click and they don't get your RSS… that's BS traffic according to me.

That's a great way to look at it. With those social bookmarking sites, do you think that getting a link from them (if your post gets published) helps your standing in the search engines much?

close to 90%, mainly because i proactively pursue SEO and internet marketing strategies to support SEO initiatives. that said, i'd like to have more direct/recurring traffic. with blogs, i believe the later is more desired by authors, as opposed to niche websites where it is mostly about targeted organic search results.
what are you doing for SEO?

Key words: tenant from hell page 1 position 9
Key words: free government appliance (and lots of variations) page 1 position 1 (all variations are page 1 lowest position 5)
Key words: stupid ideas making millions (and a few variations) page 1 position 6
The government appliance people are my bread and butter. I love them.

I agree that traffic from those sites is total fluff. It's only a temporary bump.

the day my article gets published and I have a traffic pike from social media, I notice that my google search rises as well. the problem is that the stats come back to normal the day after… so getting published is too much word for the results given!
