Howdy Folks,
Anybody have a typical 300X250 Adsense block in a column on their homepage that disappears off the homepage once you click on a post?
I'm wondering if this is a bug on my redesign, or whether Google limits the number of Adsense codes or any contextual ads on a page. I'm thinking it's the latter because I've got two ad blocks in a post, along with an above the fold ad block with media.net in the column. I seem to recall the total number of ads is three, but haven't used Adsense in a while as I fiddle around and decide whether it's worth it.
Thanks,
Sam

Google doesn't limit in the sense of not displaying an ad unit, but AdSense TOS limit a site to no more than the ad units per page. Better plugins will make sure you aren't displaying more than three, however.

Adsense actually will not display more than three. You can put in as many as you want, but from what I have seen many times before, it will just not display anything after three. This is only dealing with the same type of ad. You can have three blocks and three link units.

Ive had the same experience…I had 4 selected ads to display and one kept disappearing, then came to realize that google will shut any down after 3 are displayed…I tested and played around with it, placed one block via widget, and 3 others through a plugin and it still knew when i had more than 3 displayed.

OK, good to know. The thing is, I only have two Adsense display units, one on the side column, and one in the middle of the post. But I do have two Media.net units, one below the post and one on the top right side column.
So I'm wondering if Google Adsense automatically removes one of itself if the TOTAL number of contextual ads is greater than 3. I guess I'll go test things out now. And the answer is no.
The funny thing is, if I replace a media.net ad with a adsense ad, the side bar 300X250 ad shows up on single posts. Hmmm

@debtroundup I didn't realize it was 3 per type of unit. Good to know!

I have just recently figured this out when I did my site redesign and now I have full text posts displayed instead of summaries… so there are more ads displayed on my homepage and suddenly my sidebar ads stopped displaying on the homepage. So I'm debating whether to take the ads out of the sidebar, decrease the number of ads embedded within each post, or change my settings so that I just have summaries of posts again. Does anyone have any strong feelings on whether they make more money from AdSense sidebar ads or the ads embedded within your posts?

Mine have been about the same. The reports within adsense are really helpful to compare your earnings history based on ad unit and whatever customization you've created.
