Personally, I care about the alexa ranking primarily for purposes of motivation and focus. Knowing that mostly bloggers have the toolbar installed, the actual number doesn't mean so much, but I certainly do get a kick out of the number improving, regardless of what it came from. I use it for competitive purposes, and as one indication that I'm doing things right. At this point, with a blog less than 2 months old, it could simply be that each post I add subtracts from the alexa rating. Plus, if you don't know how alexa relates to readers, visitors, pageviews, etc. (and I certainly don't) it is a fairly meaningless metric on it's own.
Use it as self motivation, make a game of it. Like seeing how many times you can bounce a ball, and then try and beat the record.
You make an interesting point. I know that in the scheme of things, what matters most is building a network of solid readers who want to interact with me. And, I do understand that it's not strictly about the numbers. But, it's just as you stated it. I was using Alexa to keep me motivated and on track with my blogging efforts as I thought lots of others here were doing. But, since everyone is telling me not to focus on it so much, I guess I should just take heed. I'll still check it. I just won't do it as often.

Just let it do it's thing. It's working itself out. Check back in another month and let's see where it's at then.

Don't worry about rankings. Period.
Focus on content, interacting with other bloggers, etc. Honestly, you seem way, way too concerned about alexa and stats in general. Please don't take that the wrong way, only saying it as friendly advice from someone who has been in the network from the beginning.
Also, my friendly suggestion is to assume the best intention with advice from members. Getting accepted in isn't automatic. Again, please take as friendly advice.

I wouldn't be too worried about your Alexa in the beginning. It's probably still trying to determine its number and it all depends on who visits your site that has the toolbar.

There's always a number to worry about. I was just thinking how liberating it was to get rid of my bathroom scale, and then BAM this girl named Alexa tells me about another number to think of! I decided I would follow it at first, since I bet it is a bit like a giant person deciding to get serious about weight loss. You know? This first month is going to be like cutting soda, and I'll see big wins (just like the 500 pound person would if he were to cut sugar out of his drinks).

I appreciate that. Thanks. Don't worry. I won't take it the wrong way.

I like the comparison to a person trying to lose weight checking the scale a lot. In that case it is still in that person's best interest to do the things that help lose weight. Check your rank as much as you want but don't worry about the number as long as you are commenting on other blogs, writing good content and getting more traffic.
I still check my rank anytime I think about it. I also look at my Adsense earnings a lot and my analytics numbers. But I just make sure that as long as I am doing the things I need to do to be successful the numbers do not matter much.

My Alexa ranking varies quite a bit too. Like has been said, don't concern yourself with it too much, it'll only get you frustrated if you do. Focus on creating more content and in time, the ranking goes down.

That was the problem. I got a bit frustrated and even a bit nervous. But, now I know to focus on the work, and not so much the number. Thanks for the positive feedback.

If Google saw a fluction of 1000 in their Alexa rank, that would cause concern, but you're ranked over 1.3 million. Relativity is everything. I wouldn't be concerned with fluctations of 1000 if your alexa rank is over a million. In fact, it wouldn't concern me if its in the 10's of thousands if your alexa rank is over 1 million.
Focus on content and aesthetics….

Is there a reason that everyone got a thank you and good point…and I received a "you are an ass" type response? Is it b/c I was the first to speak the truth and the messenger got killed? lol

Anthony,
I stumbled upon this site, and now I wonder how valuable Alexa ranking is if someone can increase it for you without doing much work.
