Do you do anything related to your blog at work? I don't have a smart phone so the only internet access I have is my work computer. I don't think it is right to take my work's time to do anything related to my blog. However, I do go comment on other blogs during my lunch break? Do you think that is acceptable?

I think that it's up to your situation. Just make sure your company does not have an issue with internet surfing. Many companies now monitors everything these days & what you do can be used against you in the future.

What you do on your lunch breaks, unless it's illegal or unethical or against company policy, should be your OWN choice – you shouldn't feel guilty for taking a break that is allocated time for you to do so.

I think some people probably do it, but I don't think that it is right. Do you see a problem with me doing it on my lunch break though?

I don't have access to a computer during work, but if I come up with a topic, I will try to remember to text it to myself while I'm on break.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I would be really careful. Even during the break you are using your company's property for your personal stuff.

I think it depends on whether your lunch breaks are paid or unpaid. If you're technically off the clock and your employer isn't going to get mad that you're surfing, who cares?
I'll be the first to admit, I used to surf all the time at work. However, my work was different in that if I was surfing, it was because a client didn't show up for an appointment. It's not like I had other things I could have been doing during that time. But when the agency cracked down on using work computers for personal stuff, I bought an iPad and used it during downtime instead. :D

I guess it depends a bit on where you work. I've worked at small companies where you basically couldn't do anything on the web that wasn't related to your work. Then again, I've also worked at larger corporations where people regularly use work hours to do anything and everything online (facebook, youtube, blogging, shopping, etc). I've even seen it done in places that do have strict monitoring of all web activity. The only time I saw a red flag raised was against a person who spent all day researching fantasy football.
I personally think it's fine to comment, blog during lunchtime. Most co-workers I see check / buy stocks during their lunch. I don't see why blogging or commenting would be an issue, or any different. You can always check with other co-workers or your boss to get their opinions.

Guys and girls, be careful the next time you sign on company agreement, there will be a a line that says you shouldn't use employer's property for personal business and be watchful even when surfing net during lunch.

I used to, but I don't do it anymore. Now I just type up my post ideas during my lunch break and work on them when I get home. Many of my favourite blogs are blocked with Barracuda, so I can't even visit to leave comments.

My smartphone, paired with the WordPress Android app, is invaluable for me while at work. No matter what the subject material is, most blogs are blocked by my employer.

Assume your internet activities are logged. If things are going well, it doesn't matter, but if they are looking to fire you, they will have a record.

I've seen this happen a few times.

I work from home, and am allowed to use the company computer for personal work, however I still don't save personal files onto the computer, etc. However, I am careful to make sure that the time set aside for my employer goes to my employer. I only do internet things on my breaks or off time. I feel that anything else would be stealing.

As a former manager in a mid-size corporation, I assure you, it is NOT ok to use company equipment for your personal business or entertainment. Everything IS logged and can be used in a termination or disciplinary action. On company time, there is always something you can and should be doing to earn your pay. ON break time, or lunch time, take a break and eat lunch!

one advice: keep a log of your work hour.
imagine the worse scenario: you don't bring expected results, they look at your internet log, they find out you spend 30 minutes/day on blogs…. I'll let you imagine the rest of the story ;-)

My company has a blogging policy. Basically: no blogging with company computers.

I don't exactly blog, but I do type up "rough drafts" of posts in Outlook and email it to myself at home. HOWEVER, I only ever do that after work – when I wait for an hour after work before my husband comes to meet me. I used to comment after work as well… until I got a virus from one of them – and had to call IT the next morning to fix my computer.
Now I stick to emailing myself. I think that's much safer…
