Do You Drink When You Blog?

If I am ever having trouble with an article, I will have a few beers and simply write whatever comes out. I definitely have to reread it again in the morning and usually do some heavy editing, but i find some of the most amusing articles I have ever written (at least in my view) have been while there has been a beer in my hand. Any other tricks to help get over writer's block?

I don't think I can say that I've ever written a post for BB while drinking.  I've written a few for other sites, however.  Sometimes without that edit the next morning.  Missing that edit is usually a bad idea, btw.  ;)

If I find that I'm blocked, I sometimes like to just pick a random topic that isn't related at all, and write about it.  Say, I push the stumble upon button a few times until something strikes my fancy.  I'll write about the topic and see if I can't find an angle to tie it in with finance.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  But, it almost always gets the juices flowing for other posts.

While I like to think I get creative after a beer (or 3) I have recognized that my productivity goes down.  The post may be more interesting but it takes much longer to produce.  That being said, if I am just sitting having a beer, and happen to type while I am at it – better than sitting and not writing.

Just today I had wine-n-writing and it did work well. Off course the write-up was edited by someone else later on. Bottom line I agree to saving advice, sometimes alcohol opens up the blockage.

I get kick by reading some good writers, even a novel works great. Mastery of words gives me more kick than alcohol or reading another PF post.

Definitely – err, more so in the spring than this fall.  My drinking posts were definitely more cynical, though I am proud of a couple:

If I'm writing a post, you can pretty much bet I've got a screwdriver beside me on the desk. I won't try to write if I've had more than 1-2 drinks, but I do find that a little bit of alcohol helps the words flow. I have no idea how I'm going to handle that when I'm home full time! May have to take the "it's 5:00 somewhere" attitude. :)

I don't mind having a glass of wine or two while doing other admin tasks related to blogging, but I find that my train of thought for a post gets too derailed when I drink anything, so I tend to stay away from the actual writing.

I don't drink when I write. But that's mostly due to the fact that I don't drink much anyway.

If I have writer's block, I read other blogs, the news, watch TV or a movie. I can usually find inspiration in one of those. If my writer's block is really bad, I'll take a break for a day or two. I also usually have a small cache of posts that are written when I have a burst of inspiration so if I get stuck, I can use one of those.

On multiple non-consecutive occasions I've come home after drinking, and, being unable to sleep, figured I'd write a post.  I never post it that night, but yes, I've written after drinking.

English is my third language, so no I don't drink when I am writing or my accent will come out really heavy. Wink I need my head clear and my English comprehensible.

Never more than a glass of wine, but it is wine I would have had anyway. Drinking and blogging sounds like a dangerous endeavor if you hit the publish button!

Funny you should bring up Hemingway.  It's one of my favorite quotes from him.

"Write drunk; edit sober."

I drink only once a week or so and the drinking night rarely coincide with a blogging night. Smile

I do it all the time. I find it helps slow down my thoughts so that I can get them down on paper. I probably peak at one glass of wine. After that, it's all down hill from there.

Ha! It looks like we have several Bukowski type bloggers on this forum.  I'm not much of a drinker so I rarely drink and blog.

Are you suggesting to drink when you have problems writing? :)  It may help some, but not me.
