Hello smart people!

Do y'all use Klout?  Whatcha think of it?  I think people are intimidated by the fact they're given such a distinct (and sometimes unflattering number) but I think if it's developed it can be another metric that could be used in showing influence and sustainability in the blogosphere when talking to potential advertising/promotional partnerships.

I actually did get a free sweatshirt from Klout for one of their promos but haven't seen anything (or caught it in time) since.  They had an awesome kit being sent out to influencers from Sharpie which I was super bummed that essentially filled up wayyyy too soon!

I know Klout scores get harder and harder to improve the higher you go, but dude, it seems like I've been stuck at 59 for a ridiculous amount of time.

So…thoughts on Klout? Did you get anything cool?  Have you been able to use it for anything (like stats to pitch your blog to advertisers, etc). ?  

I like it, still waiting for my perks.

Klout is your clout in social media, as Hunter mentioned already. It goes up if you add on new Twitter/FB friends. It goes up more if your twits are re twitted more or you are mentioned more. ranking sites use it in their ranking formula. 

This doesn't have any practical sense, when I used to receive almost no traffic from twitter or FB my Klout score was only 4 points below the current. what I mean to say is hits from FB and Twitter does not have any linear relationship with klout score. Don't know why ranking sites use this at all in the first place…

Essentially, Klout aggregates all of your social media "influence" based on whatever services you've signed up for:  Twitter, FB, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, etc. etc.  It gives you a score based on your involvement/influence which can be used just to feel cool or could be used as another way to give stats on your site if you ever need to. 

 

Klout also teams up with different companies to give influencers "perks."  These perks can rang from free Subway sandwiches, to free screenings of movies, or what I got, free access to two new Fox shows and a sweatshirt which are sent directly to you if you accept the perk.  They do this in the hopes that you'll use your social networks to promote the brand or talk about your experience.

 

Some people love it, others hate it. I like free stuff and find it to be kind of amusing so you can figure out where I fall on that. :)

I like it just because Wisebread makes it such a big deal in their algorithm.  I don't do much with it though.

I'm on there with a 62, but I haven't received one perk yet.

I've heard of Klout and I've seen the scores listed on the Wisebread list but I don't even know what my own score is nor do I worry about improving it.  There are so many different metrics these days it's hard to keep them all straight.

I look at my score eventually, but I dont try to improve it or anything like that.
