I think I'm in a transition period, and I wanted to know if others are seeing the same thing. I'm finding that my most popular post (which happened to be written by my wife, lol), gets more hits now than when I post something new? Do you see that happen more and more when you have been around for a while? My blog is 9 months old, and search traffic is starting to take over the majority of my daily traffic stats. I'm not complaining at all, just wondering if others are seeing the same thing?
Not to mention my wife now has bragging rights everytime she sees her post at the top of my stats, lol.

Search engine traffic completely dominates my food blog. I can't even remember the last time I saw the current post in my top 10 list. Heck, my homepage is currently ranked 7th for this month's traffic! Meanwhile, my most popular post consistently gets about 10% of my total traffic and my ten most trafficked posts have received almost half of all the pageviews I've ever gotten.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Yep – I concur with Edward. I know I've written a decent article when it cracks the top ten for the day. (Started May '09)

Agreed. My post for the day typically is in the top 10, but the top 2-5 posts are usually strong search driven posts.

Same here, my day post is not all the time in the top 10, and search engine traffic is growing stronger every week.

I would echo everyone's thoughts. My Daily Post is not always in the Top 10 and have a number of posts that are consistently in my top 10 or at the top.

Yup, I am with the others. I have certain posts that seem to dominate everyday.

Hah! Welp, glad I'm not the only one, and judging by the people responding here, it means I'm moving in the right direction. Thanks for the insights :)

My most recent post is usually the most viewed post on any given day. My other "popular" posts get steady traffic, but I'm not doing as well getting traffic from search engines as I would like.

On most days my recent post and maybe 2 or 3 popular posts fight for the top spot; some days my home page dominates, though. Overall, I get most of my traffic from search engines.

As others have mentioned, certain articles (they seem to be 2 years old or so), seem to dominate every day. The new post of the day is definitely in the top 10 though.

My homepage is always the most popular following by the most recent post.
After that, I have a few posts that are always in the top 10.
My most popular SE term is "retire by 40" or "retire at 40" though. Those terms have Average Position #1 and points to my home page.

Yes, forgot to mention, homepage is still #1, but then it's my top 2 searched posts, then the current one. Apparently cloth diaper cost breakdowns and How to strike it rich when getting in a car accident are all the rage today. Who knew, lol!

My top 5 most popular posts absolutely dominate my traffic. It's funny because they aren't all that great – and I don't even agree with everything I say in them. I should probably go back and link the hell out of them in order to drive traffic to my other posts.

Yea, I have the same experience as most here. My top 5-7 posts were written 3-4 years ago and deliver probably 50% or more of my total traffic.

My home page is consistently at #4. In fact my top 5 posts are steady at their respective places since last few months. Most recent post doesn't even appear in top 15. Sometimes it does, on few exceptional days.
Looks like the phenomenon is the same everywhere.

I would take a good look at the top post and try to see why it's the most popular. Is there a theme or keyword in it? There's a good chance that it hold the top spot in Google and is a term that receives a lot of traffic.
Because my site is fairly new, most of my top posts are my most recent post. However, as my Google traffic increases I'm seeing a trend where certain posts are going to overtake this spot.

My 3-4 most popular posts are always the same. The day I put up a new post a promote it, it will get a boost from being front and center but takes a while for it to be indexed and rise up the ranks organically.
Most of my traffic is search engine.

For a long time, my top two posts were fairly steady. Funny thing is, the second one was a quick 30 minute thing I put up just to have something posted that day. Now it gets nearly 10% of my pageviews. Starting in January, another post from my top 10 started getting a surge in traffic, now getting twice as many pageviews as 3 months ago. Apparently, it's ranking 6-8 for keywords ending in "crock pot meals"
