I've been bouncing an idea around in my head to move out of California. Right now, I'm focusing on moving from Southern California to Northern California, but lately I've also been thinking of the Raleigh, Chapel Hill area. The research I've done makes this area sound terrific – lots of things to do, a large educated population, affordable cost of living and okay weather.
Does anyone live in that area and can share some pros and cons?
Also, I'm a newly credentialed teacher and am having trouble getting a job in CA (very few jobs due to budget problems.) Raleigh seems to be a city that is hiring teachers. Anyone an educator in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Well I'm from Atlanta, but I've been through that area a bunch of times. North Carolina in general is a great place to live. It's a huge state east/west, but you've got Asheville (craft beer heaven, up there with Portland IMO) in the mountains a few hours west and nice beaches (with warm water, unlike California) a few hours to the east. I personally prefer the mountain side of the state.

My good friend from high school and college lives right outside that area. (She did live in the area for years before buying her house.) Her brother-in-law was also a high school teacher there. E-mail me and I can get you in touch with her if you would like.

Emily from Evolving Personal Finance lives in North Carolina and is working on her doctorate. Given my understanding of the academic scene there, I believe that would put her in the Triangle.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Thanks, Kyle. This is helpful. I'll also checkout Asheville.

I'll definitely email you. As I understand it, Raleigh is still hiring elementary teachers. Thanks for the info!
