I recently had a guest author ask me to take down a post she wrote for one of my blogs, claiming that after the Panda update, having multiple links to her blog from the same site is hurting her rankings.
Have any of you heard anything about this? Is that actually how Panda works?
Because you have another article on your site from me that points back to my site, I need for you to remove the above article. This is due to the Panda update. My site moved down quite a bit in the search engines.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

The link in question might have been irrelevant to the topic. Nothing to do with multiple guest posts. All she wants is to revert Google penalty. People with limited SEO knowledge attribute everything to Panda.

I agree with SB – it doesn't have anything to do with multiple links from one site. Otherwise, staff writers with links in the bio line would be penalized. Google, as a general rule of thumb, prioritizes quality over anything else.

I would offer to remove the hyperlinks within the article and leave the post. It is your post now, and if you have links pointing to it that become suddenly broken, then you will have something that could potentially affect your ranking profile.

Great advice. No sense in creating broken links on your site.

It was a link to her blog on a similar topic. I didn't think that her argument was actually valid. But your probably correct that she THINKS that this is why her site got hit.
I did wind up taking the post down and doing a 301 redirect to another post I've done that touched upon that topic (although not directly related. Now that her post is down, I do plan on writing on that topic myself. It was a good one).

I've seen a few of those strange requests. I agree that she was just grasping at straws, as so many do when they don't understand the real reason for google's changes. Good for you for thinking about turning it into a new post.

I think people are getting really carried away and blaming everything on Panda/Penguin/whatever animal of the week is.

Apparently you did not lose 50% of your traffic overnight from one of them.

And Panda was not an animal, it happened to be the last name of the person who developed that algorithm.

Yeh its a strange request! Google probably don't give as much credit to a second guestpost as a first, but can't see it being penalised. If she was that worried I don't know why she didn't ask for her link to be nofollow, then at least she could have benefitted from direct traffic!

Fair enough. Although I have heard some say that they were able to get said lost traffic back.

Really? I thought it was the same google quirk like naming all of their android versions after desserts. My bad.

I don't know much about SEO, but don't we always hear that content is king! If it was good relevant content, I can't see google knocking it down in any rankings. But then again, I wouldn't know since I don't even think I have a page rank.

I would keep the post but remove the links if they insisted. Your guest author is misinformed, though.
