Hello everyone..
I have been really happy with our growth on Twitter..
We are up to 418 followers, and the growth has been steady.
On Facebook, however.. I can't get anybody to like us.
Do you have any tips on how to get more Facebook likes?
Do I need to put a giant tack Widget at the top of the page that says "Please like us on Facebook!".
I already have a "Facebook" button in the top of the page, but it doesn't seem to get much action.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
And if you are reading this and would be willing to "Like" us, I will certainly return the favor.

Liked you too. I added a facebook widget to my blog sidebar and it seemed to help a bit. Of course it will help a lot more to get active on there and connect with lots of people.

My blog is just a month old now, so take this for what it's worth.
As of today, I have 253 Twitter followers and 13 Facebook likes. I think it's great that your social media is prominently displayed on your blog, but you might want to consider making it even more obvious. I use a Wordpress social media app, and at first I had my most recent Tweets displayed; when I changed this to Facebook, I got more likes. Every couple of days, I've also been sending a Tweet out to remind my followers to like me on Facebook.
Once a week, I do a Weekend Reading post and link to other blogs, both on Twitter and Facebook. One of my projects in the coming month is to create a Facebook landing page that serves as an introduction to your site. As an example, see: http://www.facebook.com/DailyWorth.
Hope that helps! I look forward to seeing others' suggestions, as I'm still learning as I go.

I barely even know how to use the facebook, and it seems like I'd have to use my personal account to like others. I have the facebook thing up, but I don't quite see the hype. Twitter has made more sense so far. ;)

Facebook has been the most difficult for me by far. I have a little over 1k Twitter followers but I'm only up to 353 Facebook fans. The ones I do have are really great about responding and interacting most of the time, but I'd like to see the number grow. For several months, I had the Facebook Like Box plugin running in my sidebar and that seemed to help.

Same here…twitter growth has been great, but Facebook has been non-existant. I think it will come with time, but the other thing is that people generally like Twitter for quick updates.

Same here: my Twitter is growing what seems every single day. FB just sits there… Time will show I guess. Let's be patient.

You can run a giveaway were the requirement to like your FB page is how to entry. I had a lot of success with that.

I second this idea – I've had a lot of success this way with a giveaway. I've seen others do a small amount for a giveaway like $25 and still get 100 likes or so. You just have to advertise it well

I have had the same results — twitter grows quickly and steadily and Facebook is very slow growth. I have over 1000 twitter followers and 263 on facebook. I am running a giveaway currently. One of the entry methods is to "like" me on facebook. I have gained about 100 facebook likes in 2 weeks. Although, the facebook audience is much smaller for me, they seem to be reasonably engaged.

My experiences have been pretty much the same. Twitter followers are much easier to come by than Facebook. However, it makes sense since Twitter is a much lower commitment level than Facebook in my opinion. Someone can follow you on Twitter but then likely never see your Tweets because they get buried easily.
Because of this, I try to focus more on interaction on Facebook rather than number. I've been trying to do more over the past month or so, but the level of interaction on my site's Facebook page is much lower than if I were to post something on my own personal page.
Does anyone know of any effective methods to get more interaction on Facebook?
It might just be that I haven't been posting Facebook content consistently enough yet.

Organic growth on Facebook is difficult. I do get some here and there, but nothing to go crazy about. The best way to grow social media followers is through a giveaway. Use Rafflecopter, and weight more entries towards FB likes…it will boost it up quickly! Even a simple $25 giveaway can do wonders.

I have gained hundreds of facebook likes from joining big giveaways with mom bloggers and now am over 1,500. For $10-12 I get a lot of exposure. Measuring Flower has a blogger newsletter that publicizes the opportunities: http://www.measuringflower.com/bloggers/

Just liked.
Facebook is NOT Twitter. You have to have a different approach. You can't just publish blog posts and broadcast, you really have to interact. Think of your Facebook page as the personal face of your blog.
Talk, ask questions, be a little informal. Mint does a really good job of this. See how they use Facebook and you will have an idea of how to get more likes and interaction.
Check out SoOverDebt's Facebook page as well for a good blogger example. I'm always compelled to 'like' her posts or add a comment because it's so personal.

I'm having the same experience. My Twitter followers are growing steadily but FB is at a standstill. I'm trying not to worry about it too much. I can only concentrate my efforts in one place at a time and for now, Twitter is it (well, besides the blog itself). I can access Twitter when I'm at work but not FB so I do what I can. I figure I'll get there eventually.
You can go the giveaway route but I did not have a ton of luck with gaining likes when I did that. I think I'm in the minority, though.

I would add a Facebook widget to allow people to "like" you right on the blog. You have one for Twitter, so it makes sense you would do better there.
Here is where you build the widget: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like-box/

I see the same thing. I have pretty much given up on trying to grow Facebook as I'd rather continue to grow my Twitter following and engage the followers I have there.
