Just curious if anyone ever goes back and alters past posts?

I recently went through my Analytics highest exit pages and modified my highest exit pages.  For a few, I setup a path of posts to read next, and actually put it in the post, not just using the "Popular Post" plugin.

So far it seems to be working a bit.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I've been doing the same thing, slowly. Adding SEO keywords, trying to make the posts easier to read, adding information here and there. My "about" page is the #1 exit page, which is a little depressing!

I need to do this, especially since I have many Amazon links which are now worthless to me since Amazon is no longer offering an affiliate program in my state.

I change posts often and tweak based on information I get from readers or Analytics. As long as you don't make material changes, I don't see the issue.

I know I need to do this as well.  I still get several clicks a day to my Amazon affiliate account that no longer earns me anything…

I'll go back and update/change older posts.  Sometimes it's stuff from when I started out and the format needs to be updated (I started on Blogger and have switched themes a couple of times as well).  Sometimes I'll go in and fill out the article more and clean it up as well.

You bet, I go back and edit to make posts more readable.

Yep, I go back and make edits frequently.  If I make substantial changes, I usually add a little line like "updated on _________" at the beginning of the article.

I frequently add new content to my past posts. Google will rank your pages higher if they're updated.

Same here.   On the flip side, I've went back to some of my older posts that I wrote before I knew what SEO was and beefed them up, changed the title and republished them focusing on certain keywords.    I was able to do this a few time and ended up ranking in the top 10 for what I was targeting.

Like Jeff, I went back a while ago (need to redo this) and updated old posts using the All in One Plugin (now using headway) and H2/H3s and boom adsense went through the roof.

Yes, I sometimes rewrite or add more information to  a post and republish it on the same URL, so instead of having two similar articles I stay with one authorative post one on the subject. Seems to work quite well especially if you manage to get links to both posts.

I haven't done it, but it makes sense….if I ever find the time to it. Thanks for the tip though.

Many times I will go in and tweak older posts for SEO purposes or to update it with new information (especially tax articles).

I have been going back lately with the help of a friend to optimize my SEO on some posts. I am hoping it will increase my adsense earnings. It is a lot of work though.

I have not done this in quite some time now, but have to restart. The first 100 posts or so would have pathetic SEO features. I did some, but those didn't really make a difference, so I stopped. I will have to go through them sooner rather than later.
