Erika from Newlyweds had a neat guest post on five financial conversations to have before getting married. You guys can check out the post here:

What about you guys? What kind of conversations did you have about finance before tying the knot, or even if you haven't tied yet (I haven't). :)

How about how much debt I was bringing into the relationship? Surprisingly not an awkward conversation for two college students. However, I imagine the conversation would have been much more serious had we both been in our 30's and working professionals.

We didn't have a financial conversation – at the time neither of us was particualrly interested to have it. I remember though that I had savings and on our wedding day my now husban received a CC bill that to me appeared enormous – about £6,000. This continued – the debt things, I mean, till two years ago it all came to a start with us being in obsenely large debt – this meant that we had the conversation we probably should have had a long time ago when we were getting married.
Having this belated conversation also meant that we have been working as a team much better in the last two years and achieving great things.

OK I don't have any story to tell you about debt we have always been on the same page.
I have Erika's story in a roundup this weekend. If you haven't been to her blog check it out it is quite entertaining, she mixes in stories about her relationship along with personal finance (check out the one about when her husband took her coffee mug).
Kevin, please change the title to be 'plural', as in 'Conversations'.

Woah can't believe I missed that. I'll go and fixup the title now.

Earlier on in our relationship it was a bit more awkward as she came from a family with money (first gen family that came here with nothing and earned it) while I came from a broken home with nothing… but I worked hard, we both graduated, and now we're at a similar spot or so in life. She has a bit more savings since she started out with more. ;) We both share our mortgage debt together.

Great post.
For us, we talked pretty openly about finances. I was in debt at the time and my hubby wasn't. He was actually doing very well. We talked about what it would be like for the future and what our plans would be. We were able to come up with something that worked for the both of us. I must say, it was a bit of nerve racking conversation to start though.

I can't believe I missed this thread! But thank you all for the accolades.
I know I wish I had talked with my husband about finances a lot more before we got married…but I guess that's what happens when you only date three months prior to the wedding ; )
We're still working on having conversations about finances…at least we've got a plan!

We didn't have any talks about finances. He knew I came with a large student loan debt.
We are not married anymore but finances had nothing to do with it.
I think equally important is to continue to talk about it after the wedding.
I knew nothing of the finances…if something were to happen to him I would have been totally lost.

Yeah that was good. Too bad I got married before I read the list. However, I have been married 3 years and would have had to have waited too long.
