Yep, I use MobilePress and it has definitely made my blog more user friendly and I've had no issues whatsoever. It's well worth it cos the numbers of mobile searchers are increasing all the time.

I use WPTouch and am "satisfied" with it, but not blown away. Anyone have any experience with how WPTouch compares to MobilePress?

MPFJ – Ah yes, WPTouch. I used that before a couple years ago, and found it to be void of personality so I stopped.
I guess a bigger question is, if the mobile plugin is OK, and not great, is that really a better interface than just landing on an exact replica of the site with a pinch and zoom? Mobile phones are just as fast as computers on wifi and 4G now, and I do enjoy just visiting sites that show up the same as on a desktop.
Now if the mobile interface is really customized and snazzy where everything fits and there's no need to zoom and pinch, then I guess I would prefer that method. But how much does that cost to build?
Mobile is clearly the trend of the future and we should think about ways to optimize.

I'm digging responsive sites. Same page, same data, same SEO value, without a plugin. All of the updated Genesis themes are responsive.

Interesting. So if we run Genesis, it automatically comes with a mobile format that doesn't need to be pinched/zoomed, etc?

Responsive sites automatically resize to the browser screen size without a plugin or anything. Sam, check out TCI on your mobile, and you'll notice how sidebars tuck under the posts, feature boxes change, etc. If you have an iPhone, turn it sideways and see the difference.

Yes, Genesis is responsive natively without the need for any additional plugins.

Depending on which child theme you use, yes.

Interesting. I'm rocking the News child theme on Genesis, and I still had to zoom in a lot to see the content properly on a smart phone until I installed WP Touch

Cool. What theme do you use, and is this automatic and easy to change themes? I'm always worried about breaking something, especially if nothing is broken in the first place.

Responsive sites are awesome. I didn't know Genesis was responsive. Nice to know. I used WPTouch (I think) for a while and then took it off when I heard many of my visitors (on a laptop) only being able to access the mobile site. It wasn't everyone, but I heard enough that I just turned it off completely and didn't give it much more thought after that.

Just a checkbox. If you use WP Super Cache, just one more check on that plugin's options page to make it cache for mobile too.

No. They all lose something majorly important. So I'm writing my own.

They are CRAPPY responsive, though. They really stink when you need a combination fixed/fluid site, and they DON'T allow you to inject widgets from the sidebar into the content after the sidebar disappears, etc.
Even responsive sites STILL NEED TO CONVERT! The Call-to-Action MUST be preserved. None of these themes do it. Ticks me off.
Of course, accomplishing this means I have to write a ton of plugins, too, but it has to fully work.
(All this is why all I'm doing with my site right now is adding content. I'm too busy coding up the new framework. Pfffth.)

I use Genesis and my site is mobile responsive. I have a pop up for newsletter signups that doesn't come up with the mobile load but does come up in iPad/tablet mode.
I'm fine with that because trying to sign up on a cell phone is pretty frustrating and the whole idea is user friendliness.
