Feedburner – Is this even possible?

Yesterday Feedburner told me I had 44 subscribers.  Today it tells me I have 152!  Is this even possible?  I am not complaining, mind you, but just a little skeptical that I could have gained 100+ subscribers in one day.  I am thinking 52 seems like a more reasonable number, especially since it says I only reached 20.  Hmmm…….

I wouldn't think this is very likely, unless you were running some sort of promotion. Dig down into the email subscribers. If you see the listing of 152 emails, then I guess you had one big day! :)

I find my Feedburner subscribers numbers vary widely. Although not quite a wildly as yours did. But it's not unusual for me to have 130 subscribers one day, 98 the next, and then back to 130 the next. Watch it for a day or two and if it stays at 150+ then it's probably legit.

Yes, it seems to have kinks.  Sometimes my can fluctuate by 300+ a day.  Usually there is a big drop followed by my old numbers coming back.

Don't worry too much about the fluctuating feedburner numbers.  I know i would stress my first year or so when i would lose 300+ or more subscribers in one day. Usually they would just show back up the next day.. The numbers just have a tendency to fluctuate a ton, so just be ready for it.

Your number of subscribers is actually never exact.  To quote straight from google

FeedBurner’s subscriber count is based on an approximation of how many
times your feed has been requested in a 24-hour period. Subscribers is
inferred from an analysis of the many different feed readers and
aggregators that retrieve this feed daily. Subscribers is not computed for browsers and bots that access your feed.

To get a better idea of your subscribers, you should select at least the past 7 days as a date range.  This will give you a better feel for how many subscribers you really have.  Hope this helps.

Oh, and all this info can be found by clicking the little blue "i" button next to your feed.

I agree! I've stopped placing too much credit to the number of feedburner subscribers! it seems to vary like crazy!

I'm like the others. The number fluctuates too much for me to pay much attention to it.

I am back down to 55 today and that seems more like a normal amount.  I thought the 152 was too good to be true.

Did Feedburner used to always be so crappy, or is this a new development?  To be honest, I can't even say I fully understand what it does.  I find it very hard to believe that I can have such movement in 'subscribers.'

There is also a plugin that consolidates all of your subscribers.  FD feedburner or something like that.

It was not always crappy. It started being crappy when Google took over.

Mine is very consistent. I never vary more than plus or minus three in a day. I don't know why, but it seems like they have mine right at around 120.

Mine is pretty consistent to… Up or down 20 normally.
