Meeting awesome bloggers! (You've seen who's coming, right? A who's who of PF bloggers!)
Hearing blog gurus speak!
Learning ways to improve my blog, SEO, make more money, and better use social media!
Socializing with my virtual friends!
I'm super excited about Financial Blogger Conference in Chicago this fall, and my husband is frankly sick of hearing about it. Come chat with me about conference!

I'm here!!! I was soooooooo thinking about it today – so much in fact that I wrote a full post about it that will go up next week! I wish it wasn't 3 1/2 months away!!! Anybody up for meeting up before then? I can come to you even (yay fun money)!

I've chatted with another blogger in my area about meeting but haven't worked up the nerve yet. I'm excited about conference but it's a big step in letting go of my anonymity. Pretty sure I'm still going to ask to be called Penny while I'm there! :)

I've decided to give up my anonymity – I even have my full name on my business cards. I figure if I am going to do this full time, it's time to just declare myself – Crystal Stemberger, Blogger / Freelancer and the creator of Crystal-For-Hire Blogging Services!

Nice to meet you Crystal Stemberger!
I'm really looking forward to the conference. I'll be doing this 4 years when the conference comes around. I've "met" so many people online but it will be great to see people face-to-face.
If any of you are still undecided about going, or even meeting up with people in your area, do it! It's great to meet people who do similar things online and build professional (and friendly) relationships. This is an area I waited way too long to take advantage of.

I decided that if I generate any advertising income from my site, I'll go to the conference. I can drive and my husband agreed to watch the kids all weekend….now, it's that generating income part that I have to work on.

Crystal, you're braver than I am! My business card doesn't even have my pseudonym on it!
My blog is paying for conference, including a 2 day vacation in Chicago at the end. I've never been there and am going to take a little solo tour of the city and enjoy a few days sans kids and husband. Woo!

I don't think it's brave at this point – just practical. I'll be like any other writer or entrepreneur starting off.

I'm building up the blog and it might be practical to use my name. My husband is a small business owner in a luxury niche. With a less-than-standard last name that is easily connected to my husband, I don't want to use it and have clients of his connect me to his business.

Yeah, I am lucky that there is another 20 something in Houston with my name, but that's it to my knowledge…

I am not comfortable using my last name as well. A few people know my full name but I don't think anyone will remember it, even in real life I introduce myself as Suba because I have a name that no one can pronounce :) And I don't want to have my full name associated with anything other than my profession related site in case any prospective employers google me. My job is challenging and I don't want them to think my other activities will take time away from my job… So Suba it is…
I am super excited about the conference as well and been biting my husband's head off with my talks.

I'm still undecided about the conference. I guess I need to check and see if I still have time to register. My wife would probably come with me, and the flight, hotel, and tickets for 2 can be expensive. I'll check to see if we can use our timeshare in Chicago.

We all enjoy personal finance and our blogs, so I'm sure we'll have a great time and get a lot out of the conference. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at the conference.
On a side note, I live in the Chicago area, so of course I'm partial to the location :) Early October is promising for good weather, it doesn't really get too cold yet at that point. Not that I want to "jinx" that or anything…..

I didn't put my name on my cards. :) It does have my email, which includes my name. I looked at it as blog cards, not personal cards.
I'm not anonymous, but I don't shout my name from the rooftops. There are–as far as I can tell–three people in the US with my name. One shares my profession, and one is a moderately popular college basketball player.

I do too. It makes it very convenient to go to this conference. :)

I am super excited for the conference.
I gave up on being anonymous last year. It has made no difference anywhere. Not impacted my job or my life. I don't know what I was hiding from before, but all the transparency does it give a little more reputation points for me and allows me to unite and manage my personal reputation online.
What is the point of a business card without your name on it? Also, if you are meeting in person, I don't see the point in hiding it from those people. I would obviously not broadcast anyone's name against their wishes, but it all seems silly at the point.
Unless you are in a position like Sam where your career could be seriously impacted by all of this, I don't see a reason to hide.
Just my humble opinion.

I'm ok with using my real names. As long as you never put that with your address, dob, and social, you should be safe from identity theft. I think it can only help to build a stronger personal connection with any readers. Although, I do understand the appeal of a hidden identity, or pseudonym.
My comment about Yakezie t-shirts was serious by the way. It would be fun.

I would have loved to go but I just couldn't swing it financially this year. I hope you guys have a blast.
I was thinking, what do you all think about the idea of having a virtual conference? We could use WebEx or something. That way we could all attend from our own homes which would be much more affordable. Even if we couldn't get big bloggers like Problogger there, it would be a great way for the Yakezie to connect. We could all keep our aliases too- a face is nothing without a name.
Let me know if there is mass interest in this and I can put together a team to organize this.

I think that coming out with my real name could seriously impact my husband's business. He's in a luxury niche and clients have found his phone number by googling his name. I wouldn't want them to google his last name and come across my blog about living on a low income.
The business card is for people to get to my blog rather than to get to me individually, although it does have my blog e-mail address. For me, maintaining a separate identity for my blog and my real life is important still.

If there is a bunch of interest for an entire conference, I'm in and will help as much as my schedule will allow!
