Hello All!
Getting excited as I start writing my first few articles that will help shape the foundation of my blog.
Question: How many articles did you launch your first blog with?
I am hoping to have about 15 or so in the queue before launch, but I want to launch with a few staple articles already live so people who view the blog don't just click through tabs and only see 1 or 2 posts. I want to have the "About" section filled out, an "Intro to budgeting" article, and possibly just a standard article on the front page.
Thoughts?

That's a great idea. 15 is more than enough for launch.

Thanks Marissa. I don't think I'll have all 15 posts LIVE when I launch, but I do want 3 or 4 posted when I officially launch. I want to build up a queue of posts so I can publish at least 3 posts a week indefinitely :)

@ MBA: Sounds like a great launch. I'm hoping to always have a que just in case I am not able to write new articles on a given week for some reason. But I could always jump in the night before and post if I get inspired :)

I think 3 times a week is perfect. Let the juice flow through the internet.

I did not have any saved up, I was so excited to get my blog going that I wanted it up as soon as I could. But the fact that you are asking means you have the good plan to think ahead. I think your plan is a good one.
If anybody does visit on the first day or two having more than that first post will perhaps net you a faithful reader. Seeing one post on a blog, most likely just an introduction at that, could be discouraging and cause them to not return.
I think you would be safe to move along with your start up plan, and good luck!

@ Jai: Absolutely. I've been doing some research on blogging as a business, SEO, etc… and realize I'm in a crowded niche (personal finance), but I'm just so darn passionate about it, I just need to get my content out there. I do want people to read and benefit from it, though, so I'm trying to build a decent plan to get some readership growth. 3 times a week seems like a good bar to set and see if I can actually produce that much content. We'll see how I feel in a month, and will put out more (or less) depending on how it's going.
@ P.S. Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to have some great articles coming out to make people want to subscribe and start some good conversations. Excited to get going, but having a plan makes it much more enjoyable for me :)

When I first launched, I had one. I don't even think I had an about page yet.
From what I've seen with most bloggers, it's not about the first 15 that matters, it's about the 15 after that, then the next 15, so on and so forth.
I remember reading somewhere that don't expect anything from your blog until you pass 100 published posts. Very overwhelming at first, but there's a lot of truth to it.
Keep up the motivation and your blog will do well.

Wow, you know what you're getting into! I started with just one, and just kept writing after that. Now some of my posts are scheduled. But it sounds like you're off to a great start.

I agree with Jeff. It may be a great idea to provide yourself with some cushion (after all, I'm a die-hard fan of having a large queue at all times), but a 15 post queue will die out if you can't write at least 3 posts per week.
I started with 1 post. I think you will find it easier to write as time goes on, so I wouldn't worry about it too early. You could start posting twice a week if you feel that 3x week is too much. Make sure to focus on networking and other things like commenting, guest posts, etc. early on as well. It will do so much more for you (IMO).
Good luck!

I started with just one. But I didn't know anything about blogging back then (perhaps I still don't!).

I started with just one and now have a few that I have saved just in case I can't come up with something interesting or don't have the time to write that night. I like the idea of having the 15 to start with even if you only post a few of them. Back ups are wonderful things. Can't wait to get to read them though!

Fifteen is a good start. I started with one and I usually don't have any posts in my queue. I just write the posts as they come but stockpiling them is probably wiser.

Wow, 15 is a ton. One per day is sufficient going forward – until you get a wide readership. Most readers tend to only read the post on the first page of your blog.

@ Jeff: Thanks for the advice. I definitely want to be in it for the long haul. I wrote an article this morning, and am feeling very rusty. Hoping to write 3 to 5 articles a week, but I want to get into a good groove, so I figured 15 articles would help me find my stride. I can then launch my blog, but will probably have a better writing process at that point, which will allow me to more easliy put out quality content :)
@ Femme: Thanks so much. I have always found that well laid plans keep stress to a minimum. I want to enjoy blogging, not be burdened by it.
@ Corey: Completely agreed. I read your post on having a large queue, and it's what got me thinking about having a pad before even launching. I am starting to build up a large list of favorite blogs that I plan on being active on once I launch my blog, and have definitely been putting some time into reading about backlinging strategies, networking, SEO, etc… I am impressed by your progress so far, definitely looking at you for future advice :)
@ Frugal: One is definitely a good start. Better than 0, which is where I have been for the last 6 months ;)
@ Bog: I can't wait for you to read them either. I'm hoping I provide some entertainment value along with some super awesome personal finance info
@ Miser: I know myself well enough to know that I will constantly be stressed if I don't have a stockpile. So I know this is the best strategy for my own sanity
@ Short Road: My plan is to write an article a day before work on weekdays. I am getting up an hour early (which is KILLER!) to write and network. I just started my routine today, so hopefully I get into a good groove :)

I agree with others.. There is no point in having a built in "archives" on your new site.
Most users are going to just read the current post, and maybe subscribe and read everything that you post going forward.
There are many Yakezie sites that I love, that I have never even taken the time to go through the archives.
I would just rather read the current posts, because they are more relevant and because the author is more likely to have a give-and-take in the post comments.
Just start with your first post.. Make it a good one.
And go from there, posting somewhere between 3-5 times p/week.

I am leaning toward that sentiment as well. I think that I'll just have an "About" page (nothing too long), and then my first post. I do still want to have a queue of posts built up before launching, but I will just post them one at a time, about 3 to 5 per week, like you said. Thanks for the reply :)

I "launched" with one post. How many visitors do you think you're going to have that are going to click through and notice you have 15 posts?

I launched with one post. But after that I tried to stay on schedule to build up the content. There is no way in the world I would have had patience to wait till I had 15 posts or so.
