Hey all, I know there are quite a few of you that stop by WorkSaveLive every once in awhile, but I wanted to throw it out there that I've installed a widget and will be giving some link love to the top commenters on the site.

I'm hoping the spam doesn't become too terrible but I don't mind managing it, and I hope to see an increase in comments/continued discussion.

I hope everybody enjoys FinCon next week! I really wish I could make it as I'd love to meet you all.

All the best,

Jason

P.S. Have any of you tried this before? What was your experience like with spammers?

I've had a Top 5 Commenter widget for a month or two. The response hasn't been overwhelming, but I can tell a few fellow bloggers have spotted the incentive and made some (on the whole) value contributions to discussions, so it has been worth it. No real extra spam problems noted so far.

Every couple of days I'll remind readers via Twitter that they can "earn a front page link" etc, which at the moment only requires about 6 or 7 quality comments to make the bottom of the list, so if anybody's interested please take a look and feel free to leave some comments…..

I've never even heard of the widget before, it sounds cool though. And it is a little extra incentive to not just read a post and fly by, but to actually comment!  I'll stop by and check it out.

Top 5 is a little tough to crack but I just marked your blog and will try to take advantage. :) Hopefully I can read some fun and insightful posts along the way. lol.

Are you sure these widgets offer dofollow link to commenter blogs?

Yep. As far as I can tell…it's a pretty popular widget used for those trying to pass those types of links.
