Not really. Some hosts will do the migration for you, but even if they don't… Copy everything over to new host, backup and re-import the database, then make sure everything is working (can modify hosts file on your computer to point the domain to the new server to check it out before changing DNS), and last but not least switch the DNS to point to new host. Boom. Done. And with no downtime.
Sounds more complex than it is, though you can still burn a decent amount of time doing it.
Awesome. Thanks for the reassurance.
Forgot the last step. Once DNS propagates and new site is up and running, you can shut down the old hosting account.
One other thing: If you have e-mail tied to your domain there might be a few extra steps. But again, it's not horribly difficult.

Seems like an opportune time to jump in and mention that I offer both site migrations and cheap website hosting. If anyone is interested, email me and we'll talk. :)

Andrea – I don't want to migrate right this second, but when I do, I'll be in touch! Now that I'm posting more on WhatMommyDoes, I'm getting highly frustrated with the limitations of my template. It's pretty to look at, but sooooo not friendly to someone with limited coding abilities! I miss StudioPress. When I do migrate, I could use some advice on the most user-friendly/nice-looking/SEO-compatible option out there.

In terms of user-friendliness and SEO-ness, one framework that consistently gets high reviews is Thesis. I'm personally not overly enthused with how it looks, but that is something highly based on personal tastes.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

For those who don't consider themselves particularly tech savvy, I will argue that Thesis is not all that user friendly. I've seen a lot of people literally reduced to tears trying to make their site look different than every other Thesis site. I don't even work with Thesis because it's so time-consuming and frustrating – and I'm saying that as someone who is perfectly comfortable with CSS and coding. Personally, I think Thesis is recommended a lot because it has a robust affiliate program and all these so-called gurus enjoy the commissions. Not that there's anything wrong with earning commissions, necessarily, but when someone asks me for user-friendliness, Thesis is NOT the first framework that comes to mind.

I got this email from go Daddy today:
We owe you a big apology for the intermittent service outages we experienced on September 10 that may have impacted your website, your email and other Go Daddy services.
We let you down and we know it. We take our responsibilities — and the trust you place in us — very seriously. I cannot express how sorry I am to those of you who were inconvenienced.
The service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented a series of immediate measures to fix the problem.
At no time was any sensitive customer information, including credit card data, passwords or names and addresses, compromised.
Throughout our history, we have provided 99.999% uptime in our DNS infrastructure. This is the level of performance we expect from ourselves. Monday, we fell short of these expectations. We have learned from this event and will use it to drive improvement in our services.
It's an honor to serve you. As always, please call us 24/7 at 480-505-8877 — anytime, for any reason.
Sincerely,
Scott Wagner
CEO

Andrea, thanks for the input on Thesis. I've never actually used it myself. I'll be more careful of recommending it our anything else on the basis of other people's reviews in the future!

I'm with Andrea re: Thesis. It''s (relatively) powerful but it''s *not* easy. Even if you *are* tech savvy, you have to learn all kinds of new hooks, etc. I use it, but… I've found that, despite the fancy dashboard, etc. any sort of under-the-hood customization (in the custom functions or css files) actually takes me longer than with a "regular" theme where I just go in and edit the core files.
I was very disappointed when I bought it expecting a plug-and-play experience and wound up having to practically learn another language. You should also consider that I haven't worked hard at all to make it look non-Thesis-y; I can only imagine how hard it would be to do so.
And yes, I also agree that the popularity is largely driven by the affiliate marketing

I completely agree. I'm very familiar with coding and was shocked at what a hard time I had adjusting to using Thesis when working on a site that used it.

When I first started putting my toes in the water on migrating from Blogger to WordPress, I tried a theme that was supposedly similar to Thesis. It was free and didn't have as many options. I wish I remember the name. But anyways, this thing was very overwhelming. It wasn't easy and I ended up backing off. If Thesis is along the same lines, I can't think it would be all that 'simple' and I'm pretty tech savvy (though not very 'graphic' savvy if that makes sense)
