Just wondering how long it took you all to get your first Google page rank. I'm a month in now and don't have one yet so i'm curious.
Thanks!

It took me ages – close to a year probably. I used to say that I am 'stuck in Google purgatory'. Don't understand it really, never did – when I asked the answers were that to a large degree it is a mystery (but it does depend on what you do and how you connect).

Google updates PR every three months or so, not usually less but sometimes more. Totally up to them and never on a schedule.
New sites can take time to get 'let out of the sandbox' so to speak, though that's another rule of thumb that is often seemingly overlooked, as some fairly new sites have made big splashes right off the bat.
I'd say target six months, anything less than that is a bonus.

Thank you both for your input. I had a feeling it was one of those really ambiguous things that Google likes to do. :)

As MB said, PR updates usually come along every 3 months or so. Last one was last month, so you will probably see some sort of PR around May or June.
Of course, PageRank and your actual ranking in Google have little to do with each other these days. People have lost their PR and gained traffic and the actual ranking, which is secret and only Google knows, changes in real-time.
Regarding the sandbox, I've read that it takes 2 years to get completely free of the "new domain" penalty, but it does happen in stages.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Just because you don't see any rank it doesn't mean you don't have one. The big G only updates their visible/toolbar rank a few times during the year but they are always making changes to the algorithm.

My question Nick is why do you are what your PR is?

Good question! For one, I would love to start getting some search engine traffic. For another, since I am new to blogging I am kind of obsessed with understanding everything about it. The most accurate answer though is probably related to my schooling and profession. I am in the Business Intelligence field and I am obsessed with data and metrics.
