Great post – commented and tweeted.  I could certainly see myself taking a 50% "paycut" for true freedom, but that much more than that I think is tough to handle… especially if it's only from one or two sources… if one of those dries up it would be pretty scary.

Joe – awesome post. It's unfortunate that there are negative comments. To me it suggests that our culture really does place more value on a high income than true happiness/financial freedom. (nothing wrong with a high paying job if you really enjoy it) I, as you probably know, support your goal to find a way to do what you really want and not be tied to a high-paying job that you hate!

Thanks for the support. 50% paycut is still a big chunk.

I'm really lucky that my wife likes her job and will continue to work. That will give me time to build up more income streams.

There are negative and positive comments and that's great. I need to see both side.

Yes, I think many people are tied to the job that they hate and think it's dumb to try another alternative.

I'm just happy that I am open to trying it and not stuck in that track.

I commented on GRS. Personally, the idea of early (or ever) retirement isn't for me. I've found that I function best when I have an external framework of tasks, a schedule imposed on me. Completely aside from financial considerations, a job I don't like is better for me than having to rely on myself to fill the day.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Good article, Joe. Went and left a comment.  Never mind about some of those negative Nellies.

Ouch, I don't think I would want to guest post to endure that grilling. This is the other side of posting on a biggie site. Joe, the tone of your article set you up for it, though. If you can handle it, move on to MMM. That crowd loves to give it.

Unless you have something to piggy back on, you can't take risk. I am also against early retirement notion. But its your life, you should cover all bases before retiring.

I think it's awesome, Joe! Congrats on the great post. I think the intense discussion comes with the territory….you were willing to stick your neck out and tell your story. I think that's pretty brave. Great work.
