Hello all
I have a question concerning guest posting and links.
Typically in my guest posts I have an author bio with two links. 1 link to my homepage and 1 link for my email list sign up.
To achieve effective back linking and recognition from Google do I have to have a link within the body of the article or is the author box enough?
Also, if I am required to have a link within the body of the article does it have to be to the homepage, an article on my website? Does it matter?
Thank you all for reading and responding.
Fyi if you need a guest post let me know :-)

I've got some pretty substantial experience with backlinking strategies (earning much more from niche sites than my blog) and it definitely doesn't matter in terms of link juice if your link is in the body of your article or the bio box, as long as the link is on the main page of their site it will pass along the juice (after it gets shuffled to the back, it won't have the same PR juice to pass along, but it'll still be good… this is why blogrolls on high PR sites are so treasured). Not sure which placing is more efficient for raw click through traffic. You can obviously link to whichever page on your blog you want, but that page will then get the majority of the link juice from the link. Any link that link backs to your overall domain will help, but as far as improving statistics for your main "homepage" you'll want a direct link to that one.

Yes, and to target keywords, use the anchor text on the link.
FYI – I love guest posts if you want to write one for my site.

Here's my answer, adding to what MUM said. Unless you are hugely successful with email link, I would discourage that. I would rather suggest you adding some of your post links.
Link juice to your home page will give your home page a high PR, attracting ad buyers.
Link juice to your posts would make it appear higher in google search, attracting SE visitors.
Initially I had RSS link on author bio, but no one subscribed…I think it's not very sane to think people subscribing to you after reading just one post.
Yes I would like to have a guest post from you, take all juice you want.

Yes this is true. When I do backlinking campaigns for niche sites the backlink anchor test is always the direct keyword your using, or one of 2-3 variations.
We could probably use a guest post too if you're interested.

Definitely make sure to include links to your posts – from what I have read/heard, it is very important for various reasons – SEO, rankings, etc. Sent you an email explaining fully.

A relevant link in the body can help with anchor text and can be a great link to an article of yours.
Another thought on guest posts in general – it never hurts to link to a good article by the host as well as linking out to an authority in the article (like "according to this survey in the Wall Street Journal…).
Just my thoughts.
