Has a major site ever requested to interview you?

Last week, just out of the blue, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal emailed me asking for an interview.  She had found a blog article on Family Money Values that fit with her topic.

She was interested in: http://blog.familymoneyvalues.com/2012/02/dividing-your-estate-unequally-between-children/

I've had this happen once before – with a different site – and it is pretty gratifying to get unsolicited requests.  I'm curious as to who else has had this pleasure.

Have you ever been contacted by a major site out of the blue with a request for an interview?  If so, please add a comment and tell us about it!

I was contacted by ABC 20/20 for a live TV interview.  They found my article about being a debt collector on DailyFinance.  After the phone interview and subsequent back and forth, I realized they were looking for someone who had threatened people, which I was not one. They also wanted me to bash my previous employer, which I also won't do.  It was nice to have been contacted though.

Hey, I'm from the UK and in the last couple of months I have been approach and appeared on a number of media related outlets.

Some of the things I done are:

  • BBC Radio Kent
  • ITV This Morning (major live tv show)
  • The Sun Newspaper
  • The Express Newspaper
  • Yahoo Finance
  • Filming a thrifty tv show due to be aired 2015

When I first started blogging in August 13 because there aren't many male PF bloggers in the UK, I was approached quite quickly for interviews etc.. At first I turned them down because I didn't feel very confident. This changed though when I realised the power of appearing on radio and TV. The amount of 'new eyes' on my site was enough for the uncertainty and low confidence to disappear!

WOW, that's too bad – but yeah, nice to be contacted.

Sweet!  I'm humbled by the number of sites contacting you!

Good for you Marie! I have had a few request, but generally turn them down as I don't want to do video and audio interviews are very difficult with low speed Guatemalan internet.

A guy from NatGeo wanted to come to my place and play little guest house for a month with a video crew but I turned him down, too shy for TV!

First off, debt round up, why not try to "reverse pitch" and see if you can do a different angle?

I've been interviewed a lot as a source for Investor's business daily, bloomberg radio (guest appearance), bankrate (featured professor), and a few others.

I really enjoy getting the smart investing and money practice ideas out there.

Barbara, I tried the reverse pitch, but they were very adamant about getting the "dirt" into the bad collection practices.  While I thought it would be cool to go on 20/20, I am not the type of person to bash a company I have worked for.  I feel that is in bad taste.

Nat Geo sounds exciting but I don't think I'd want even them at my house for a month either!

I wonder what kind of traffic repercussion you get though. I am not a very engaged TV watcher who googles what she sees on TV to learn more but I guess some people would check it out.
