Sandy

Have you been hacked or copied? I ask because I got a comment from your site today but it didn't have your name nor did it have good grammar. It didn't sound like you. Just wanted to send out the warning just in case you didn't know.

This is the comment I got from Jeanette at Yes I am Cheap:

Thanks for this post; it gave me clearer a thought now about what’s
Sustainable Investment is about! It’s informative and a job well done
for you!

Let us know if you need help fixing the problem.

Did it have a link back to anther website?  Maybe someone has started their own website on blogger, wordpress, or typepad (not trying to copy, just not knowing another site exists by that name)?  Or maybe Sandy hired someone to leave comments for her site?

Good catch, Miss T!

Good catch, Miss T!

Both of these options ran through my mind. The link that was left was to Sandy's site since they entered her site info in the comments. Maybe she hired someone which is fine but I just wanted to check.

Yes, I did hire someone.  :)  Too busy to comment these days.  We have to work on Jeanette's language skills.  The other commenter is actually great!  Thanks for the feedback.  Have to fire this one.  ;)  Thanks for looking out for me.

And if you get random pingbacks with my blog name but not from my blog, I have been cloned by a couple of sites.

Haha. Yep, if a commenter can't put sentances together properly, that's probably not going to help your site. Time to get rid of that one… Congrats on your success though! You must be doing quite well to hire so many things out!

I noticed the same thing with a comment from "Jeanette", and assumed that you hired someone.  Life gets busy, I know. For what it's worth, Jeanette's comment on my site was actually fine, only slightly grammatically awkward:)

Hired someone to comment for you?   I must say that I love everything about that!   That's outsourcing at it's finest.   I would love to be able to find a VA to do that for me, but I think it would be tough with my financial and investment background.   I need to mull this one over…..

Good stuff. Cool

Where did you find a comment worker? Odesk?

Well, I will go against the grain: Sandy, I am sad that you are hiring others to comment for you… because I remember enjoying the comments that came from you!

Another risk about hiring bad commenters, your domain could start getting flagged as spam too many times, which could burn you forever.

But hire someone good? Great move ;)

Since you are one of the fathers of personal finance blogs Tom, can I ask, have you hired commenters?

Haha, "fathers of personal finance blogs". Thanks for that, but I still feel pretty new compared to some of the guys that were blogging before I knew what a blog was. ;)

I haven't hired out commenting, and I rarely get a chance to comment on my own. It is something I'm considering. I have a community coordinator and am also looking at getting a full time VA, so it's a task that could be handed out.

I wouldn't mind someone commenting in the site's name, I might feel a little too dirty having someone comment in my name though. So the name could be "Whoever @ Canadian Finance Blog" or "Canadian Finance Blog", but not "Tom @ Canadian Finance Blog" or "Tom Drake".

I have Jesse commenting for BP (and some for WI). I read EVERY blog in those, but with english not being my first language it generally takes me a lot of time to even write a comment that would be grammatically correct. And it has to add value. So letting someone else do it with me was the best move for me timewise. In fact, I still comment on some posts that Jesse already commented :) just because I have something to say too.

With that said, I considered hiring someone from Odesk or elance. But I don't want to just comment, I wanted to also add something meaningful to the discussion. Who is better to do that than another PF blogger I trust :) I could have done well money wise by hiring from odesk, but valuewise, Jesse is the best for me.

Thanks for the recommendation of Jesse. I have been considering a commenter for the fall once I get really busy with work and school and knowing that he is someone I can trust is a relief. Thanks for this info.

After Labor Day, I'm going to "hire" my wife to comment for me. She's also going to handle carnival submissions and networking on twitter and FB. After all, she is the 'S' in 'KNS Financial'! Wink

Sounds like a great plan. I have been trying to convince my hubby to write for the site since he knows a lot about personal finance, but I haven't been able to convince him yet. He is more on the shy side.
