Definitely not considering dropping Adsense as it's my primary revenue generator, in my albeit limited overall monetization which I need to expand on ;)

agree ad sense is my only real shot at making money. However, I also use adbrite, which I like alot because I get paid per views and per clicks. Meanwhile adsense only pays per click. What do you guys think about adbrite?

Avoid it like the plague. Budgeting in the Fun Stuff had it and it showed shady ads with boobs and half-naked girls…

As Invest It Wisely said, I marked the "Family Friendly" ad box with Adbrite and ended up with something like Russian brides and cleavaged burnettes asking if you'd "want to come out and play"…funny in hindsight but I was freaking out at the time.

Freaked me out when I saw it at work, but it's pretty funny to think about it now! :)

For those upset about adsense earnings it took me 18 LOOOOOONG months to get my first payout but after that first check I never missed a month….I have only took down adsense a couple times and that was when I was getting paid by a private company to put their ad up.

Hi JT!

I've been thinking about approaching some larger companies–do you go through the media link or press link on their company website?

Thanks!

I agree with this statement completely! It took me 12 months to the payout level of $100, but since then, in the past month, I have made $50….I think it picks up at a more-than-linear pace.

One of the best changes I have made has been to put the adsense right below the post title…I believe Suba does this as well.

For January about 85% or so of total Adsense came from below the post title. I have only two blocks: The sidebar which shows everywhere and below the post title which only shows up on single pages. For posts older than 15 days, I show a large block, otherwise I show a smaller block.

Yes. >95% of my revenue comes from this block. It shows only on the single pages not on the home page.

Media link for sure.  Some have really archaic submission steps (snail mail/certain formats) while others are just "hey send us whatever to XXX."

Definitely mind the instructions, they matter! Laugh

Maybe their ads are just sensitive to your browsing history?  Laugh

I've advocated the Adsense Optimizer plugin and still do.  My earnings went from $0.50 cent a month to at least $20 a month since installing it.  While most people have the most clicks from ad links right under the title, mine flips between one sitewide on the header and the below the title of each post when it is expanded.  This plugin also allows me to vary the types of ads that show up in a single space.  Sometimes it will show an image, sometimes a link unit with different sizes and colors.

I can also have it show ads in between posts on the landing page.  I don't do it for my main blog, but I do it for my tenant blog since that one is my test on how to make money online.  Just my two cents.  Affiliate links have made me less money in the same time, so Adsense stays. Although, if an advertiser wants to occupy a space or be my sle sponsor for the month, I'll drop them like a hot potato.

Advertisers will find you.  If you have the right  key words, rank, and look that they are searching for they will pop up.  It behooves you to have fresh content that consistenly brings readers back so that advertisers will want to renew their ads.  And don't be afraid to change the look of your site.  In the two years my site has been up, I've changed it three times.  I consider each change an upgrade since I added something new each time.

I'm digging my way out of some serious debt at

I am starting to finally appreciate Adsense!  I am getting about 70 dollars a month.  Not great money, but a lot better than where it was even 6 months ago.

Almost all of my adsense revenue comes from search engine traffic.  Increase your search engine traffic, and your adsense payout might increase along with it!

This must pay for your hosting and internet costs with some money in pocket to look at things like … drawing a blank – that email service that sends emails to people who comment to your stuff.

Regardless, congrats!  $800 a year is sweet!
