Help Changing from Blogger to Wordpress

Hey all,

So things in my life are starting to simplify (although I know that by saying that a bombshell will drop) and I want to rejoin the challenge. But I've recently started using wordpress for my meal planning blog, and I really want to migrate Modern Tightwad to wordpress. Does anyone know a good guide to do so? I don't want to lose all my posts and such.

I have dreamhost as a hosting provider, and my site name is registered through GoDaddy. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Thank you!

Also: Does anyone know if we can have multiple blogs in the challenge?

this might be helpful:

http://www.mamablogga.com/the-…..wordpress/

Basically you'll want to setup wordpress at the new host first, set up your theme/etc.  Then import your blogger posts.  Go to tools/import in wordpress and you can import your blogger comments and posts..

of course you'll also need to make sure your posts are redirecting correctly as well, the post above mentions that in part.

Good luck!

Yes, you can have multiple blogs in the challenge.  :-)  I have 2.  You just have to treat them like separate entities and complete the challenge with each one.

I paid Blogcrafted.com to migrate from Blogger to Wordpress, so I'm sorry I can't help more there…

i would second the blogcrafted recommendation. I used them to change my permalinks and set up redirects. they were good and affordable.

You can do it yourself. It's really simple. i have moved 3 blogs from blogger to wordpress. You just need to buy your URL first so that you keep all of your stats. Wait at least a month or two till after you have bought the URL to move it. Back up all of your files and posts. Next you just add WP to your new URL. Change the domain name servers. You can transfer all of your blog posts right over to WP from Blogger. Redirect your old site to your new one and done!

I did the move myself with help from Mark (Buy Like Buffet – Thanks again Mark). My hurdle was learning about hosting since I was with Blogger for everything. There is more setup to do and understand.

Since you are starting from scratch, it's probably easier too.

Mark, will you be my new best friend? ;)

I may be getting URL and domain confused, but I've actually have had my own domain for two years. I bought it through blogger, but it is managed by eNom, and the blog is hosted by blogger. I guess I essentially just want to have my blog hosted through wordpress, which my dreamhost account will allow.

You make it sound so simple, but last time I tried to redirect something on another website there was a bit of a disaster, and just a few tears. So do you know of a step-by-step guide?

Thank you!

Andi

This is the step by step guide I used and it was great! I had a similar move since I already had purchased my domain/URL but had it hosted with blogger. So when I moved everything I used this guide so I each search engine result would be redirected as well

I made the switch early and have never regretted it.  You'll love wordpress far more.  Google seems to like WP blogs a lot more as well.  That is ironic being that google owns blogger.

Thanks,

Timothy

I have done it 3 times myself too. It is fairly straight forward.

1. Set up new Wordpress blog (use a subdomain for the testing and layout)

2. Import posts from Blogger using Wordpress import tool

3. Install a Blogger -> Wordpress post URL redirect plugin

4. Move the domain name at your host to point to your new nameservers

5. Change the Wordpress site settings and your host settings to move from the subdomain to the main domain (or use APACHE to do it manually)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

You're welcome! The Passive Income Earner and NarrowBridge may know some guides as well.

Yeah, don't forget number 5 like I did :) I ended up modifying the database to fix it.

5. Change the WordPress site settings and your host settings to move from the subdomain to the main domain (or use APACHE to do it manually)

If you try to do #5 out of order, you lose all front end access to your site and have to edit it through FTP. Don't do that one out of order.

Thanks for these guides. I have another blog on blogger that needs to be moved over to wordpress soon.  This will make it a lot easier!
