Hey guys, I'm enjoying watching my Alexa rating drop as much as anyone. I'm totally driven by numbers! But what is the benefit of having a lower Alexa rating? Is it better search engine placement? Better Adsense ads? I'm not questioning it at all, just curious what kind of tangible benefits you all are seeing.

Thanks!

Better advertising rates and the knowledge that you are a top site on the internet.

It's something you can use to enhance your site's marketability to advertisers.

Mainly, however, I think it's something that serves as a marker of how your site might be doing on a relative basis compared to sites in general. It seems like many newer bloggers can get obsessive over Alexa rankings, but really the rankings themselves are not as big of a deal as one might think.

This topic is mostly dead, but I have a habit of reviving dead threads. :P

Anyway, yeah Alexa is mostly worthless; however, in terms of Yakezie, I think it's importance is brilliant.  Anyone who is in this network can EASILY hit 200k in six months, but to do it they'll have to be actively involved, engaged, and committed to "selflessly helping others."  Sam was brilliant to use the Alexa toolbar as the metric for beating the challenge because it doesn't require that you have a killer domain or insanely in-depth blog content, you just have to leverage the power of the network.

Good stuff all around.  But still, outside Yakezie, I don't think many people take it all too seriously.  Unless you're in the top 10,000 , of course. Cool

Hey, JT, I appreciate your input. Good stuff to know. And the thread wasn't that dead. I only started it this morning. Thanks for reviving it, nonetheless. :-)

I agree with JT. Sam had a wise idea to create a network around Alexa rank. It's incredibly unique and possible. Advertisers seem to use a variety of metrics to rank a site.

I have personally sold multiple big ad deals using MozRank, more using PR, and 2-3 using my Alexa ranking – but it does look really nice as a leading stat for BFS.  :-)

Hehehehe–I think that JT was talking about how it was brought up months ago by several other bloggers (if I may speak for JT:)). No big deal!

Crystal, I appreciate your information on MozRank. That's not a tool or ranking I was familiar with.

I actually haven't seen many Alexa posts.  I just know I have a tendency to throw in more comments where they may not be needed…like right now. :P

It's a tough job racking up 188 posts in a little more than two months. ;)

Can a mozrank be a negative number?  For the longest time I wasn't getting ranked.  Now it says -1… can one really regress into NEGATIVE numbers?  I didn't think I was THAT bad of a blogger!  :)

Yeah, it seems to me that Alexa is really a measure of your Yakezie involvement more than anything. That's why this site is around 10,000. All the Yakezie folks come here, and it has done wonders for this site.

It's too bad Sam isn't monetizing this site, it could draw a pretty penny to an advertiser who cares about Alexa.

I wanna be a Thousandaire so freaking bad!

Kevin, I was thinking the same thing. Sam could make a fortune if he wanted too.

I think Sam has stated before that he looks at his web properties as a backup plan in case he ever needs it. He is building them strong and if he ever needs to monetize them, then he can very easily but for now he isn't focused on monetization.
