Hi everyone

I embarked on the Yakezie Challenge around 2.5 months ago, at just under 8 million (?!), and today I've just broken 300k. Is that good progress? I honestly don't know…

Anyhow I realised I've been focussing so much on the ranking I've not even participated in the forum yet, so here I am.

Looking forward to getting to know fellow PF bloggers better over the coming months. What a great community/resource.

Cheers

Before anyone gets in and chastises you, I'd offer you two pieces of advice Drew.

The first, and it's not meant to be hard on you or anything, is to read the forums as you will find a bunch of your questions already answered, and will prevent rehashing the same things over and over again.  I'm pretty sure there are more than a few threads about what can give you a comparison of others' progress to your own.

The second, which you eluded to already, is to forget about rankings of any kind.  Concentrate on building relationships with the group and with readers.  That's where your real success will come from.  Post, comment, participate, and engage.  The rest will take care of itself, I guarantee it.

Drew, you're doing fine. I'd recommend being a part of the forums if you are serious about the challenge. It looks like this is the first time you have commented in the forums and that is a part of the challenge as well. It's not just about alexa – it's more about getting to know other bloggers and networking. Good luck with the rest of the challenge.

Drew -

You said you haven't been participating in the forums because you're too focused on your rankings; but participating in the forums is THE BEST WAY to improve your rankings. Get active and continue producing quality content.

You're doing great.

I certainly echo everyone else. I didn't see my Alexa drop until I started becoming more active in the community, including Yakezie, other people's blogs, etc. Have fun with it and don't burn yourself out,but it's definitely an important step in improving your rankings.

I think you're doing great! As everyone else said, don't be too focused on the numbers.

The "cool part" (technical term) of following the advice above: your blogging challenge becomes more fun. This can wear on you after awhile, and interacting with your community is a way to stay fresh. If you're focused only on watching a number drop you'll burn out…which has always been my biggest fear. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Even more important than posting here.. Is to start visiting and commenting on the blogs of fellow Yakezie members.

People will see your name in the comments, and visit your page, and traffic will start to increase.

My wife and I, who both contribute to See Debt Run, have noticed a direct correlation between the amount of commenting we do, and the amount of traffic that we get..

I would say the number sound good but how do you feel? How do you like what you have been doing with your blog posts and your audience? It's really more about what you are doing for the community and your niche than the numbers. I know you are out to reach goals and that is all good but in the end there are more important things to strive for.
