I've never been completely clear on the page rank thing, other than it goes from 0-10 and getting above 6 is extraordinary. Just last week, when I first found Yakezie, my page rank for TaxesandStuff.com was 0. I made a couple of posts and BAM! Overnight it shot up to 3. What gives? I know PR is important, but it's also hard to take it seriously if I was able to go up two slots so quickly. Is this common? What do you think did it? The only thing I can figure is that I wrote a couple of highly optimized articles and Google liked that? LOL
FYI – TaxesandStuff doesn't have a Facebook page or a Twitter account yet, and I actually spent the few days leading up to that trying to comment around the blogosphere using my other site as a link, WhatMommyDoes.com. Maybe I'm just expending all my effort on the wrong site! hahaha

Usually when Google updates PR, it's an across-the-board change for all sites on the internet (except those that remain the same – many don't change with every update). However, there are definitely glitches – one of my newer sites shows PR 4 even though it's less than 3 months old, while my PF site has been stuck at 3 for almost a year. I don't claim to know what Google is up to, but I would just caution you not to get too attached; it could very likely drop back to zero during the next update. I hope not, though!

:( Yes, I'll definitely be sad, but not surprised! It is nice to see that 3 up there on my toolbar every time I visit the site, though.
Thanks for the info!

Yeah, Page Rank changes a bunch lately. But I am with you, enjoy it while you have it and don't tie up too much of your site's value in your mind to it since it is wonky.

Thanks, Crystal. Oddly enough, I'm somewhat hoping it stabilizes and drops down to a realistic number given my site's age and content. Then, I won't be constantly worrying that it's gonna drop! LOL But if it stays up there, then that will be a nice bonus.

Hi Tricia,
PageRank is assigned automatically. Right now you've got a PR0, which means Google has seen your site (otherwise you'd have N/A). No one knows the exact algorithm Google uses, so it's best to focus on writing great content and interacting with other bloggers. PR will follow!

I think the only reason Google even publishes pagerank anymore is because webmasters would complain if they didn't. It lost any meaning years ago. It certainly has no relationship with search traffic or domain authority.

It's best to focus on DA (Domain Authority) and PA (Page Rank), which is updated every week. Rather than PR which is updated roughly every 90 days.

Thanks for this info, CBC – I didn't realize that.

Man, I have no idea. I pay attention to my pagerank (2), but not too closely. I don't know how google does all their stuff, so I just try to keep writing new posts with interesting content, and visit my blogger friends' and yakezie sites, and just let google handle my pagerank how they want to!

Ok, what's Domain Authority? I can't keep up with what's important! Took me forever to understand the concept of Page Rank.
