Hey Timothy,

You're welcome.  Sounds exciting, to be a finance keynote speaker at a big event.  Are you taking steps to get there?  Good luck to you!

I'm not full steam ahead as the platform on which I build my viability as such a speaker will be the Wealth Artisan, so I'm working on the website for now. I've always been very comfortable in public speaking and I've spoken in front of a few hundred people a couple of times, so I think I've got the speaking part down.

Right now, it's all about thinking out my financial philosophies, building content, and presenting it in the best most interesting way possible. I think the rest will follow suit after that. Great questions though, thanks!

Marie,

Recognition is nice.  Would love to hear more about the CNBC.com quote.  Can one actively make a blog more quoteable?  Good luck on more quotable opportunities!

Hey Crystal,

Back to my singer example, becoming meetable at conferences is similar to having autograph seekers and groupies.  I guess you did make it on many fronts.  That's so cool!

I don't know the exact answer to this, nor do I think there is a precise answer.

For us, being nominated as a top blog for 2011 by the nationally syndicated newspaper Globe and Mail was pretty freakin' cool.   We didn't win but the recognition, given our site was less than 6 months old was pretty remarkable.

The day I will get 100 visitors per day excluding my own visits, will be my first achievement, second one would be when I will earn my first check from the blog. I can not think of other stepping stones as of now. I havea long way to go, first thing first.

Fun question! I think when you know, you just know because blogging is a virtuous cycle.

I think I already have since I hit my $2500 a month goal (what I needed to make on average for 4 months straight), but it will really sink in around September when I give my 2 weeks notice at my day job.Laugh

Congratulations! Great step! I bet the count down to September has begun already…!

i think it depends on your goals….

if the goal is to quit a job that pays you X amount, then you have made it when you are making X or a percent of X that you are most comfortable with

if the goal is to build passive income streams, then you have made it when the stream is sustainable on a residual basis

there are countless scenarios, and as FS mentioned, you just know when you get there

I suppose you've made it when you have achieved your desired goals.  Mine are pretty simple, and thats to consistently reach $100/mo. in revenue…and then to also get picked up by other major sites like Frugal Dad, TSD, Get Rich Slowly, MSNBC, Globe, etc…. I just feel that would be a huge honor.

I think that when you've made it you're likely too busy to even realize it. It takes so much effort and time to grow a blog that you never really take the time to appreciate what you've built. At least this is true for me. I always feel like I'm behind. When I feel like I've made it, I look at your blogs that are growing so rapidly or I look at a few superstars (Adam Baker, Pat Flynn) and realize that there's a long way to go.

10K/month is great but you just want to make more ;-). I was going crazy when I made my first $1,000 in a month! Now, I'm waiting for the day I'll be making $25K!

Honestly, I don't think I will consider that I made it since there is always much bigger than me. Right now, it's easy to find people who are more successful, so I guess that my goal would be to be considered in the "top 10 PF bloggers of internet" which I'm obviously very far away from this place…

Hey Sunil,

I agree.  It depends on each person's goal.  I'm just thinking back to my singer analogy.  I'm sure tons of them are in it for the love of music.  Just to get their song heard, kind of like many of us.  One day, who knows, you blow up like Justin Bieber.  Not sure if he had laid out goals, but I'm sure if you were to ask him, he'll say he made it.  Laugh

This question can be answered differently by everyone, depending on what they're trying to get out of their online presense. If they simply want an extra $100 a month, this would be their "arriving point". If, however, the goal is over $10,000 per month, then the arrival would be equivalent to $10,000. For me, I think I'm leaning more toward the $10,000/mo. rate. While I know that I'm nowhere near this level, I think it's entirely possible – I just have to be willing to put in the time. When I reach $10,000 a month, I will let you all know that I have made it! :)

Derek, where do you invision the $10k coming from? How many and what kinds of revenue streams?

It's hard to define "making it." As long as I'm growing, I feel successful. On any given day that might mean a few more subscribers or Facebook followers, a few more dollars in Adsense, or a new advertising inquiry.

Corny as it sounds, I think it's more the journey than a destination.

Hey Julie,

Corny, but true.  I feel I'm on a journey, too.  Just wanted to hear from others about their journey and destinations.
