My life has been kind of hectic lately, but even with the job change coming next week I can't figure out how to keep everything organized in my head. Between reading, commenting, posting, reading the forums here, submitting to blog carnivals, guest posts, staff posts, talking to potential advertisers, tweeting, Facebooking, and stopping every now and then to pee or sleep, I'm worn out!
How do you all keep up with all the blogging stuff PLUS working a full time job? Do you have a schedule set up? I have a feeling there MUST be an easier way.

You have to remember to breathe. I had a few bouts of almost burning out myself. You can always get to your next task the next day. If you get too worked up, your body will breakdown. Then your day job and blog will suffer as you are forced to recover. Although we all want our blogs to be successful, you have to remember to not run yourself into the ground. Good luck!

I could sink 50 hours a week into this blogging gig, I know what you mean.
I'm not a veteran blogger by any measure, but here's what I do:
- Write First, and submit an article – I do this first so that any other marketing or networking gives people something new to look at.
- Netwok Second,
- Visit as many other blogs as you can – see what they are writing, read the interesting ones.
- Comment on as many blogs every day as you have time for
- Promote others routinely – Twitter loves the spammy approach, so I use this several times a day to promote good articles. I use Facebook sparingly.
- Set a cut-off point each day. Limit to 2 hours, or stopping at 6, or whenever.

I had my Big Push Schedule before I quit my day job two weeks ago. It was kept up with via checklists that I still use (http://www.budgetinginthefunst…..hecklists/).

If there is an easy way, I do not know that. I easily spend 50-60 hrs per week + my challenging full time job. Yet, I manage to write only 2-3 posts a week and very little networking/social media. I get morning 2 hrs everyday from ~5-7 and then 7-11 at night (I cook only one day a week and freeze everything so I finish work at 6:50 and start on blog at 7 and weekends I work 12 hrs sat/sun on blog. If work takes longer, then my sleep gets shorter those days. One day I will learn to write better and it will become easy. I used to stress out when I didn't have a post for m/w/f but now, I don't care. There is no point in doing everything for a short period and burn out/stop.
Relax, you are in this for the long haul. So not posting one day or not tweeting/facebooking/commenting/whatever… will not kill your blog. Figure out what is important to *you* and allot time for that. Rest of the tasks you can do if/when you have time.

You've posted a ton this week, so it's no wonder you feel burnt out.
Some say a post a day is the best way to grow a blog quickly, and I'm sure it is, but there's just no way I could handle a post a day. I post twice a week, and rarely 3 times a week. I have several months of topics built up, some of which are continuously pushed back. It's nice to know that at any time I could just let the blog run on its own by using the content I've collected. I could also increase the post rate to 3 times a week all the time and still have enough content to get through October.
Pick a posting schedule and let it work its magic.

I just remember that if my blog needs to take a backseat to my normal job, it can and that I shouldn't feel that bad. This will probably happen next week, but then the weeks after that, I'll get caught up with blog stuff again. It comes in waves. I wouldn't worry too much!

Thanks for responding, all.
I actually wrote almost all my posts for this week last weekend, so I spent all my supposed "downtime" during this week commenting, reading, etc. I just feel like there's so much going on that I miss out on! It's also difficult when people come over and I can't work on anything lest they discover my secret. :)
I guess I'll just do what I can do and hope for the best. I appreciate your input.

You know, you don't have to do everything. I don't Tweet very often, I just have it set up to automatically sent one every time a post goes live. I do the same thing for Facebook. I have a great spam filter (G.A.S.P.) now so I don't have to cycle through a bunch of spam every day. So really, for me it's just responding to a few comments, getting back to people's emails, and posting my own articles. Advertisers tend to contact me, I don't make a ton on effort to reach out (yet). So, now I have time to write my eBook! Oh, and this network is just fun, so that's kind of like a break.
Just think, if your blog takes off, you might not have to work full time anymore! Keep that in mind, and suddenly life won't feel so exhausting. :)

I usually try to figure out what is on "fire" in my blogging life. I have also used a timer to try to focus and write more quickly…

Don't stress over it, that's my suggestion. This is supposed to be fun, right?
I'd look at what's most important in day to day life, and get that done first. Fit in blogging when you can. Really. I haven't always followed that advice, as sometimes I just get on a roll and get way into it. It's addicting:) But when I do follow that advice, it seems to work out well and I naturally find balance.
If this is your primary source of income, then all bets are off. However, if this is a hobby or side venture, just do what you can. Think of the ROI on time. Everything that comes with blogging and growing a blog can really take time, I do know what you mean.
One thing I just started doing is setting specific time limits for myself. This helps keep focus, at least for me.

Sooverdebt, you will burn out if you seek to post everyday, forget it.
I stopped worrying a long time ago, my average is 2 posts per week and I am more than fine with that especially that my big posts require tons of research.
With 2 niche sites on the side, I rarely have the time to even comment and follow my fellow bloggers except at the last minute when I am doing my roundup.
So take it easy, you're not competing against anyone, enjoy yourself without burning yourself.

Two posts a week with a roundup and spend the rest of the time networking. That seems to be the best mix for traffic and building a community.
There are so many blogs to visit that often, your 3rd or 4th post that week won't get any attention.
Now I'm focusing on writing more in depth than more posts. Also don't be afraid to re post an old post that hasn't seen any love if you get behind.

I agree that posting once a day takes time. You would have to clear your schedule to maintain that consistency.

I'm not worried about posting daily so much – when I do post often, it's because I wrote a lot over the weekend and scheduled a bunch of posts. But during the week, I don't know how to choose which things to keep up with – there are so many carnivals and forum posts and tweets to read! I don't know if I need to make a schedule or if I should just keep doing what I'm doing – trying to keep up with all of it at once and missing out on the things I don't have time for.

I keep it to three posts per week, and I always like to keep about 2-3 scheduled and 2-3 half-way-finished drafts. This gives me some flexibility if I feel lazy.
I work full time as well, and I find that nights and weekends are when I do most of my work. I have Twitter on my phone, and I use this to promote posts and re-tweet others. I also answer most emails from my phone at work.

I think one of the most important things is not to worry about it – even though I like posing 3-4 times per week, sometimes that's just not in the cards, and I dont let it get me down, because if I did, I wouldnt write the next post. One of the most difficult things for me is to keep visiting others blogs and commenting. I'm subscribed to most of the yakezie via rss, but that doesnt make it easy to comment. As far as social media, I basically ignore facebook (trying to fix that) and dont tweet too much.
As derek mentioned, have systems set up that do the easy stuff for you. I'm going to start the process of redesigning all mine so that my posts will auto post to twitter and FB, but need to work on that in the future – same with spam.

Yes, like others have said, don't worry about it. I too went through this not too long ago. I was very overwhelmed and was thinking of quitting. But I held on and solved some of my issues. I hired Melissa from Mom's Plans to submit to carnivals for me. I also hired a few staff writers to help out with writers block. I also have a few plug ins that auto submit to twitter etc. which helps. Remember, like I have been told, we are supposed to enjoy blogging so do what you need to do to make that happen.
