I am a social media moron. I have twitter account and a facebook page, I send all my posts to them. When I read a nice post, I tweet it if I see a tweet button in the article. Other than that, I login once a week and retweet a few tweets. Regarding fb, I login once in a while and like all the yakezie blogs that are suggested to me (based on my friends I guess) by facebook. That is the extend of my social media reach.
I would love to make use of it properly. I have a few questions
1) Do you guys submit to all (at least a lot) of social media sites out there? Like reddit, tipd, stumbleupon…
2) Do you go to each and every site and submit your link or use something like onlywire to batch submit?
3) Batch submission, does it work? I tried it once but it failed with a lot of errors.
4) Do you use a VA to take care of social media? Is it worth it? Have any recommendation on who to use etc?
Thanks,
Suba

To be honest Suba, I'd have to say that I'm a lot like you in regards to social media. I do use StumbleUpon, and it is pretty effective at times. Twitter does not seem to bring very much traffic, but I have an automatic sendout every time I post a new article.

I have posts auto-linked to twitter and facebook and retweet/share posts that I come across. I used to use StumbleUpon, and it seemed to work well, but I didn't get up with the time it took to submit new posts to it over the long run.
Would be curious to know if any one knows of a way to automatically link your posts to Stumbleupon?

I use everything and do take the time to submit. I usually get the following referrals per post:
- Facebook: 10
- Twitter: 2-3
- Stumble: Around 5
- Reddit: Depends on the post, I have had some deliver 100+, but I can usually count on about 5-10
The cool thing about Stumble and Reddit is that the referral is usually a new visitor, so you have a chance to land a new reader.

I use Facebook alot by posting each of my posts there and also asking questions of my reader and sometimes commenting personally about things going on in my life. I get a TON of traffic from Facebook (I would say at least 100 a day). I don't do much with Twitter other than post my posts. It doesn't seem to bring much traffic.
I have yet to use Stumble or Reddit.

I use Twitter and Facebook plus Digg and Stumbleupon but don't find we get much traffic out of any of them Twitter perhaps the most then SU then Digg then FB. FB seems like a waste of our time – I really need to know how to better leverage these mediums but nothing has worked to date.

Im really curious how you "use" Stumbleupon? I created an account, and the whole thing just confuses me and seems like a lot of noise.
How do I use it to market me blog?
And more specifically, what should I add to my blog itself to link with Stumbleupon?

To use StumbleUpon, all you do is create an account, and you go to your posts and you "Like" them. Then you choose several tags, and as people Stumble through those tags, they could end up at your site.

I get a ton of traffic through Twitter, but I do spend a lot of time following other bloggers, commenting on what they say, and tweeting more than just links to my posts. I keep considering Facebook but I want to make sure to keep it separate from my personal FB profile.

You can keep it separate by making a Page for your site. It won't connect unless you become a fan of it, or start liking the posts. If you do create a Fan Page, make sure you post it here on the forums and you will soon get a bunch of Yakezie fans!

I automatically post my articles from both sites to Facebook, and I get traffic sometimes from that. I send automatic tweets from my Fat Guy site as well. Other than that, I post on a lot of bookmarking sites – some manually and some using Onlywire. The main ones I use are Digg, Stumble Upon, Tip'd, Reddit, OldDogg, FWISP, and Mixx (until they got bought out). I post to others as well depending on the topic of my article. I don't really participate on these sites except to post my articles and to vote on those that I network with. At least they provide easy backlinks.

Khaleef, Can you submit your own posts to Digg, Stumble Upon, Tip'd, Reddit, etc? I heard that is not really allowed?
Robert, do you use onlywire for everything? Do you submit your own posts too?

I use OnlyWire to submit my own posts to everywhere Khaleef mentioned. It streamlines everything. I submit mine and others too.
The only thing I don't use OnlyWire for is Twitter and Facebook. I use WP_Twitter to submit automatically to Twitter, and I write my own Facebook posts manually.
I also retweet other peoples' post manually as well.

I don't spend much time on Social Media since they only bring visitors that spend less than 30 seconds on your site (Stumble Upon, Digg and others). I like twitter as visitors seem to stay longer but I rarely tweet….
I got some serious numbers of visit from SU (more than 2,000 in one day) but little money out of it and almost no RSS readers gains either… this is when I 've dropped the ball!

I submit my own posts to Digg, Stumble Upon, Tipd, and Reddit. However, I will ask others to submit to SU because they have been known to ban people who constantly submit their own posts, so I break it up. Tip'd doesn't care at all – I've been told this by the moderator, and I think Reddit just wants you to submit other posts as well.
I am going to scale back on this somewhat because it can be time consuming, and time is the one thing that I don't have right now.
Oh, I also submit to PF Buzz.

Jumping in here, you can submit your own posts but it's good to do so in moderation and to submit a variety of interesting posts from other people regularly at the same time.

I only use Twitter and Facebook. The other types of social media have not done too much for me.
