I was going through my google analytics and looking at where I was based on the search keywords that landed on my site and what I realized is that I am unsure about my real rank since it seems to be showing what I have in my Google Reader. It mentions "From your Google Reader subscriptions" or "Cached".
Does it still highlight the proper ranking? Anyone know if searching from your home PC with your site cached produces different results?
Thanks.

I don't know about caching, but if I am logged in into my gmail I know for a fact that it produces different results. I am always ranked higher than normal if I search after logging in. Also I found out that search results vary based on location (or may be their previous search history) because my sister is in east coast and I asked her to search something, we were seeing a slightly different set of results. Recently the results also seem to take into account my twitter and facebook likes (I am still not sure how it is figuring out, but it is figuring out correctly). If I shared something on "random topic" in twitter, later if I search for "random topic" it show the link I shared first.
To answer you question on how to figure it out, I don't have a good answer. But I can see the search position for each keyword/url in the google webmaster tool. It is not accurate but that has been the most reliable result than anything else. May be someone can tell a better way to figure this out…

I have been reading about Scroogle Scraper and I believe it gives the google ranking without giving biased results. Maybe you should give this a try.

Install ccleaner to delete all cookies, cache and other saved webdata then do a search while logged out of Google. Alternatively, marketsamurai will track your positions if you're willing to pay for it.

I use Traffic Travis, which has a free version.
For one site/keyword at a time, you can use http://www.mywebranking.com

There's a firefox plugin called rank checker that will allow you to check your rank for a list of keywords, and will give you historical data on your keywords and rankings. It's free.

I use StatCounter – when I look at keyword activity, it shows me where I rank for the search terms people used.

I think Its very simple to answer. WMT.
As Suba said the search result depends on many things. you can only get the average position in all searches that produced your URL.
This avg number on WMT is the best one you could reply on.
Scroogle just omits user preferences and location to give you a position which google actually would never put you in.
So, I would suggest not to rely on scroogle.

Chrome extension SEO SERP Workbench allows you to enter keyword and see what sites rank in the top 10 spots. It also allows you to enter your own site's url to see where you rank for that keyword.

I use the free version of SEO PowerSuite Rank Tracker:
http://www.link-assistant.com/…..index.html
Once per month I check where my sites ranks for the different keywords in the different search engines and in the different target countries. This seems objective and reliable to me.

The SEO Books Rank Checker Firefox extension is still working. Market Samurai announced that they are going to start using Bing instead of Google for some of their results.
