How Many Guest Posts Would You Publish Every Week?

Hi everybody!

Just a quick question for all of you.  Up to how many guest posts would you publish every week if your site posted every day?

I post on BFS every day and will put up to 2 guest posts in any given week unless I'm on vacation (then it's as many as I can get).  I thought this seemed reasonable but my non-blogging husband asked if having guest posts so frequently would hurt my site.  It's a good question but my immediate reaction was "of course not" – am I wrong?

Thanks,

Crystal

PS  If you would like to guest post at BFS, I have more than enough openings, lol.  This is just me being curious.

It depends on the style of your site, I think. Inexpensively is a multi-user site so I could publsih guest posts 5 times a week, with no problems. A single-user blog with a distinct voice will lose a lot if that voice is diluted by too many regular guest posts. I don't really have an opinion on numbers, but if your blog strength is in your personality, you need to be doing the bulk of the writing.

I agree, if your site is built around your personality, then break up the guest posts with a whole lot of "you". Crystal, speaking as one of your readers – you are definitely the reason why I enjoy your site so much.

I limit them to once a week (when I have one which I do tomorrow thanks to you!).  Of course, I normally post 4-5 times a week.  There are times when you can have more such as vacatiion, deadline and if you explain that to your readers they should understand.

JD at Get Rich Slowly said his readers complained a lot when he wasn't writing much on the blog because he was finishing his book.  I doubt many readers left, though.

My husband was right.  I just told him and he's really happy, lol.

Okay – well, here's my begging:  everybody stick with me for 2-3 weeks and I promise no more than 1 guest post a week unless on vacation after that.  :-)

Thanks for being honest with me!

No problem! Everybody gets busy from time to time. You've definitely earned a little break!

If he got 100 complaint e-mails, that would be just over 0.1% of his readership.  There will always be people who complain. Confused

That'd be a nice problem to have, wouldn't it?

2 posts per week would seem like this is not your blog anymore. I would carefully chose my guest blogger to reflect your style of writing. This is more like a blogging direction to take:

#1 you want to promote this blog as YOUR blog

#2 you want to promote this blog as a blog where you get several writers…including you on a steady basis

big difference in term of management and promotion but both works very well ;-)

Speaking of guest posts, I'd be happy to have anyone on soon.  Any topic. You choose. Please?  My writing brain needs a vacation.

That's where all this started – I needed help after a vacation and then found out how awesome guest posts every week were, lol.  I'm emailing myself a reminder to send one over to you sandy.  What email address should I use and do you have any ideas in mind?

As of now, I limit it to one per week.  At this point I think that more than two would be pushing it and become more of an article directory.

Once a week. Two is the max. I always figure that people consistenly come to your site because they like your writing style.

That sounds about right to me too.  I do love the fact that people like my writing – I'll man up and do it more, lol.

I'm posting my first guest post this week (!) but I'll probably keep it at 1 a week (if I have a flow of guest posts)

Thanks for bringing this up Crystal – I have a guest post you might like.  I'll shoot it over in an email.
