Help, please! I have a second blog in mind and came up with a great name for it. Unfortunately, the name is registered but vacant. The person that owns it bought it in October, 2006 and it expires in October ,2011. GoDaddy (where it's registered) says they'll buy the domain for $70 plus commission. Is there an easier/cheaper way to do it?

Did you check to see who owns it?  Go to whois.sc/thedomainyouwanttobuy.com and see if there is a contact email.  If there is, fire over an email with an offer.

I'm not sure I've ever seen the Godaddy brokerage thing you mentioned.  Can you take a screenshot maybe, and just block out the domain?  I'm sure if it's that awesome you probably want to keep it quiet. Wink

Lots of domain registrars will act as brokers.  There is usually a broker fee as well as purchase price.  If you do contact the domain registrant directly, lowball the first offer…or you can always wait them out.  I waited someone out once and got the domain.

Sandy said it. Contact the domain owner directly.

i am with JT on this wholeheartedly.  i have been able to acquire some domains over time after having contacted the owners.  go to google and search for "WHOIS Database" and see if the owner is disclosed. if it is blocked via private registration, contact the owner through the site assuming they have a contact link and they respond back.  lastly, enter their URL on google's search bar. you will be surprised what kind of info is available sometimes
