Hey all. I recently started getting serious about my blog: http://www.belowyourmeans.com. Having recently joined the challenge, increased my postings and doing some networking – I have dropped my Alexa score from 8M+ to 1.1M. Not bad. My traffic has also increased from about 15-20 hits a day to about 30-40. I have a had a few big spike days, but those are the averages.
What I am wondering (and I hope people don't mind sharing this) is how much traffic with different Alexa scores get.
- For example, does an Alexa score of 1.1M really equate to about 35 visitors a day?
- Does an Alexa score of 200k mean 100 a day or 1000 a day?
- What does an Alexa score below 100k mean?
Here are my stats:
- Average Unique Visitors a day: 35
- Biggest spike: 751
- Alexa Score: 1,170,230
I really appreciate your sharing and feedback!

Alexa is based on the number of people who go to your site with the Alexa toolbar installed, so there's a weak link between total traffic and Alexa rank.
Lots of webmaster traffic (even a few people a day) is a pretty easy way to get a low Alexa. Yakezie member traffic is especially important, since we all have the bar installed.

BTW – If people would prefer not to post stats in public, but would be interested in the same information… maybe you could private message me and I could compile the data and share it back with the group in an aggregated manner. Just a thought.

March – 1864 uniques, Alexa around 300k
April – 2,143 uniques, Alexa wavering around 200k
May – 2400-2700, depending on Google gods, and Alexa right at 199k
May traffic is far more SE dominant this month than the other two. So far in May, 49% is search engine, 36% is referral (blog carnivals, commenting…mostly Yakezie blogs), 15% is direct. March and April had a lot of social bookmarking traffic, this month there has been 0. Social bookmarking brings more Alexa traffic (lots of webmasters/SEOs/SEMs/SMOs use it), search engines are weak on the Alexa end. Referral traffic is probably in the middle…if it's Yakezie members coming through referrals then ballin! Otherwise, middle of the road in terms of % Alexa.
Another variable worth considering is posts per week. I think daily posters get a one-up here, since you get 20 posts a month X 3 months. I post…oh, maybe 2.5 times a week, on average. Posting 5 times a week would probably be an easier way to beat Alexa, but I just couldn't do it.
Edit: I'm a moron…I just saw your PM. I post these publicly anyway, so whatever.

I don't know if you can draw a definite relationship between Alexa and traffic. For instance, my traffic was about 65 percent of what it is now, but my Alexa rank was 20,000 less. I have stopped worrying about Alexa somewhat because it is so variable based on who has the toolbar.
If you do a roundup on the weekend with Yakezie links, that will help your score as many people will stop by and thank you. (Not suggesting you link to me or anything, I just know that helped me along the way.)
I have about 275 unique visitors a day during the week, and somewhat less on weekends.

I don't think there is any direct correlation.
We found that when we joined the challenge a number of people started to check us out but i'm not sure that number increased significantly after the first 6 weeks, if at all – and since we completed the challenge at 8 weeks our rank continued to drop for another month but since then it has creeped back up. Our traffic is growing as per our uniques and the comments we get – but those comments are increasingly from people outside the network.

I'm getting about 180-200 absolute unique visitors per day, about 1500 page views per day and my Alexa rating is just under 90k. I'm not sure that they're related. My Alexa rating has been about the same for 6 months, but my unique visitors and page views have gone way up.

At best, Alexa is a weak indicator of a site's popularity. I say weak, because, as others have pointed out, it only indicates popularity among those who have the toolbar installed. You're real indicator of popularity/success is your traffic and subscriber numbers. If those are increasing, then you're doing well. For instance, when I began the Yakezie challenge, I was getting somewhere around 15-30 unique visitors a day. Now, through participation in Yakezie and improving my blog and blogging, I get 60-75 uniques a day. Of course, my alexa has gone down, but I don't think you can draw the direct correlation that you're looking to. Keep involved in the group, and with other blogs, grow your blog and build upon your blogging/writing skills. That's the sure way to success.

There is no correlation. It is like JT stated. That is why so many tech blogs have low Alexa ratings.

My Alexa has been doing crappier as of late… my page views are also down a bit but I remember I was able to get this Alexa with half the page views in the past. I think it depends mostly on how much referral traffic I get; SE traffic doesn't seem to alter it much.

My traffic is down a bit too, but April was a big month of SE traffic due to tax season.
